Most enjoyable gaming experience this year. Progression system kept me going, and the base building/deployments were surprisingly fun. I would have liked a bigger narrative but for the most part it was interesting. The only downside was replaying the first mission in its entirety for the final mission.
This was my first From Software game that I finished (I played most of Dark Souls, and later will finish Dark Souls 2. I actually went to the trouble of Platinum'ing this game because I didn't want to put it down. Chalice Dungeons were pretty boring, I wouldn't have played them much if I wasn't going for the Plat'. I think this would have been my game of the year if it had more build options similar to Dark Souls, replaying as a different character/build was not tempting and different armor was more a Fashion-Souls thing over play style.
(The Taken King)
I started playing Destiny with the public beta last year, had a ball and purchased it soon after its initial release. Once I started to learn more about the progression system and light levels I instantly lost interest. With The Taken King I decided to give it another try since the game has overhauled its progression and leveling system. I am officially hooked, I am enjoying the hunt for daily Legendary Marks and better gear.
Standard Dark Souls stuff...I did miss the tight compact interconnecting levels of Dark Souls 1 though.
I dug the retro styles and was very pleased that it had more of a modern game hidden inside.
Again another great retro style with modern ideas. The checkpoint systems is very inventive.
I did not play a ton of Rocket League, but for someone who doesn't play a lot of online competitive games and hates sports in general this was a blast to play.
Being a former Xbox 360 person this was my first chance to play these games. Fantastic collection, and looks shocking good on PS4.
This is my first Fallout and first Bethesda game. I stuck to the main story missions (for the most part) because I found the side missions to be boring. I know Fallout fans would tell me they enjoy the world more than the main mission, but I found the world to be too boring. Gameplay was not interesting and leveling felt useless for the most part. Even armor/weapon choices seemed trivial in the early/mid game. I am sure that late game is totally different but I am not willing to sit through the needed progression to experience it. Plus this is the 'jankiest' game I have played all year.
Super cool game, I had a great time with it but found it sort of repetitive and never picked it back up after the 4th or 5th boss fight.
Hotline Miami 1 is one of my favorite games of all time. This one didn't click with me. Not sure why..it still seems like a solid game but I did not have a drive to finish it.
Not the worst game that came out this year, but looking back it is the worst game I played this year. I finished it, not that difficult or time consuming obviously. I found the story to be very interesting but there is not much there. I hope there is a sequel...that is longer with a story that goes somewhere interesting.
