also when you use the key and enter the cave for the first time, you then hear a bang. you then run back to the gate to see that you have been locked in, and the grate has been rigged so that even through you have the key, you cant reach through to unlock it again from that side of the game thus rendering possession of the key useless. 100% Ned attempted to lock Henry in the cave and believed that to be the end of him.
