@tuxedocruise: honestly you can go as far with it as you want to. Story wise there's the comics and they always include some type of summary video of the other games in each game, so it's not absolutely essential you play each one. Honestly, as someone who started with 3 and then played each new release as it came, personally I don't feel like it matters too much. I barely remember what happened in 3 and 4, and while there's some characters and stuff you won't get the backstory to I feel like you actually can go into each story and experience it as a self-contained thing.

That being said, I have fond memories of all the games and I think 5 is the next best game after 0 (not including 6 or kiwami 2), so I do think the other games are worth going back to just for the fun of it. I don't think you need to get a PS3 for 3, though. Like I said, there are good plot summaries in the games anyway, so imo it really only matters if you want to be a completionist.

Slightly OT but given the relative success of 0 I'm optimistic they bring Kiwami 2 over, and really hope it happens.

Never played monster hunter before, about 8 hours in and really liking it. Spent basically my whole time switching between different weapons and hadn't really found one I loved (Glaive greatsword longsword heavy bowgun) until I tried the Charge blade. Only done one hunt with it but loved the way it turned out. Tried the switch axe in training mode but leaned charge blade cause I liked the idea of phial management and preferred being faster in the "base" mode then getting slower but more powerful once transformed. Might try the switch axe further down the line though.

Game is free for PS Plus members this month, on both PS4 and Vita (cross-buy). Looks interesting, looking forward to checking it out.

I've had this game on my steam wishlist ever since Jeff played a bit of it, and it finally came out today. Before I get into it, note that if you have Crimsonlands on steam already you get another 20% off, and if you don't, buying Crimsonlands first then buying Tesla Vs Lovecraft in a seperate purchase after will end up saving you like .20USD.

Anyway, as for the game itself. I think it looks great, and perhaps to be expected from a studio experienced in twin-stick shooters it feels great too. The powerups and stuff once you get going feel really fun, and I like the mech mechanic.

Some minor complaints: the game starts off way too easy and takes way too long to ramp up imo. The pace at which it doles out new weapons and upgrades at the beginning feels like it takes forever, compounded by the fact that I wasn't anywhere near challenged until like an hour in. After that it starts to pick up a little bit, and the weapons/powers/perks get more interesting, but I wish that ramp up happened faster, and I wish the same thing for the enemies. My other minor issue is that the upgrades, at least for now, don't feel unique/diverse enough. They give you an option to pick 2 perks every time you level up, but because the pool increases so slowly and because they (start, at least) as fairly normal upgrades: health, ammo, faster recharge on your warp, etc.- it rarely feels like you're making significant choices, and the levels are short enough that every time you choose a new one and the level up process starts over again you're just picking the same upgrades over and over every 5-10 minutes or so.

Despite those issues though, I do think this game is fun. Getting a bit overshadowed by the bigger releases today but if neither of those are for you, or you're coming to this later, I would recommend it. It's a lot of fun.

RE: the voices, completely agree. It's uneven but I appreciate that they went for something different/weird. A particularly long cutscene between Rex and Mythra made me try the Japanese voices (I think those two are the worst in the game which is a shame considering how central they are), but I almost immediately switched back. The thing about the Japanese voices is that they're fine (not fluent in the language so can't comment on the fine details of the performance), but they're painfully generic. Every character's voice is basically the anime/JRPG stereotypical voice you think they would be and a lot of the non-main story rare blades sound identical. I switched back because even though some of the english VO performances are flat, they're different enough and just good enough to keep it interesting.

Tokyo Mirage Session #FE for Switch. I still want to play that game, but really don't want to use my Wii U ever again. Let's make it happen!

Besides that, they have already teased out a handful of things. I'm not sure what surprises for this year they will have. It seems more like the surprises will be "Oh man, the new Pokemon is coming out this year!" Unless it's something like the new Animal Crossing is coming out this year, but they've been quiet to give Pocket Camp it's 2 minutes to shine.

yes please to tokyo mirage sessions. What they said on this week's bombcast about it making sense because doing the port work is relatively inexpensive gives me hope too.

Beyond that, I don't really know. I feel like Nintendo mostly announces stuff way in advance so I wouldn't expect much we don't already know about, maybe that smash port. Looking forward to Fire Emblem switch though.

They are essential if you have played any of the other consoles. If you only have played mobile or Nintento games you wont mind the joycons.

And yes its expensive, switch is the most expensive console.

Disagree. I have all current-gen consoles and have gotten by using the joy-cons and the grip that comes in the package.

My advice to OP is to try the joycons out and if you really can't handle them pick the joy-cons up after.
