An idea that to a point, if you continue to put hours into the game, becomes nearly impossible to win or finish.
Would you think this is a re-playable idea?
Your thoughts on playing something like this?

@TurboMan:
Yeah most probably. I mean, if you know how to get out of one, then its not really a finger trap at all.
And and and... that if you actually decide to trap yourself in it, then does it become difficult to escape.

Back to the discussion on Chinese finger traps, they're pretty awesome.

Sounds interesting.
So if you don't figure the game out early on, you'll essentially slowly dig your own grave?
I feel like if this were done there'd have to be some "out" buried into it that is consistent with the game mechanics, so that even if you've dropped 50 hours and there's no hope left, you can finally figure that one last thing out and get it.

It's an interesting idea.  To an extent, most die-hard popular multiplayer shooters inherently become this way.  Same with multiplayer fighting games with shelf lives longer than six months - you inevitably begin to notice a huge number of pros versus shitty players.  But in the context of a single player game?  Hell yeah, especially if the game had a post-end game, such as Fallout 3 or Borderlands.

I would say yes, but Tetris... it is not... how you say... it is not an adventure.

Are you saying that no matter what you do it would become nearly impossible or that if you, let's say, messed up your character's development that the game would become impossibly hard but if you planned well you would be fine?

It sounds interesting on paper, but in practice I'm not sure if it'd be particularly fun to play.

You're suggesting a game that gets harder as you get further- That's how games allready work.
The actual new idea you're suggesting is that you can win at any time, and it's easiest to win right at the start. So most people would beat it straight away, and if you played it a second time then the beginning part would be too easy and you'd have to avoid winning, which isn't fun at all.

And the kind of game you're talkin about is an MMO, assuming that  you win an MMO by stopping playing it.

A game set on a sci-fi prison colony planet that is an allegory for Nazi concentration camps
It starts off with the deception of 'moving to a temporary place where you will be fed and housed' in a (futuristic) train
the focus of the game begins with social interaction as you and the other 'passengers' converse and such
it transitions into a brutal game of survival and dog-eat-dog as the reality of the concentration camp dawns upon you
eventually the oppression, malnutrition/starvation, abuse culminate into an execution scene. the end

I like the idea, most games you turn up and resolve some kind of conflict, but in your game you just make things worse until you inevitably get taken out by the chaos you created.

Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter. And to my knowledge, it was a horrible idea. A lot of people ended up putting themselves in positions where they literally were not able to finish the game. I haven't played it myself so I can't really how hard is to put your in that situation, but it sounds like a dumb idea.
