Fakey's Fall of Games 2014

I'll be honest, most of these games were also on my Summer of Games List...

I knew I couldn't get through 50 games in just a few months, based on my schedule. However, I like the idea of keeping an ordered backlog to keep tabs on games I'm most interested in going through. It also keeps me motivated to finish games in order to move on to the next ones.

Even following the order of the list can be exciting, as I do spend time when making the list to create a flow of games with different lengths, genres, and mechanics. So, going through the list gives me a nice variety.

So, here's my Fall List. I know I won't get through all these games (I'll be lucky if I get through half...), but it's still fun to put together the list, changing the order of some games on my Summer List, based on my current preferences, and adding in some new releases or games that I just decided to pick up for one reason or another.

List items

  • This game is going to start off my fall. It actually comes out before 9/22, but I am going to try to finish one more game on my Summer List before I move to this Fall List. :)

  • I didn't buy this when it came out, because I wasn't convinced it was going to be good. However, the reviews got me excited for it, and I'll finally be able to squeeze it into my backlog, now. :)

  • I broke down and pre-ordered this after seeing the incredibly high reviews and seeing a really good deal on a pre-order... I'm a Tolkien fan and was interested in this game after coverage early this year, but I thought I could wait a few months to play it. Guess not. :P

  • The first Costume Quest had some serious lulls, and some of the battle mechanics were frustrating to me. However, I'm really excited for this second game, as I'm sure they've made some great tweaks.

  • I played Saints Row The Third late, so it is only appropriate I play this one well after release, as well. Also, since GTA V isn't coming out on PC until the end of January, 2015, I'm even more excited about fitting SR IV into my fall!

  • I loved the original Octodad. I didn't get this game at launch due to reviews talking about how this game made a lot of missteps by making the player do things that were frustrating instead of fun. However, since the game has been patched with several supposed improvements, I want to give it a shot.

  • The Witcher 3 and DA: Inquisition are my two most anticipated games, right now. That makes Inquisition the most anticipated game of the fall for me. :) So, I'll be playing this as soon as it comes out, even if I haven't played some of the other games before it on this list...

  • I loved FarCry 3. It was one of my favorite games of 2012. Therefore, I'm really excited for this sequel. It stinks that it comes out the same day as Dragon Age: Inquisition, but I'll still have to make time for this between sessions of Dragon Age. :D

  • As a fan of Sci-Fi, adventure games, and Wadjet Eye Games, I really want to play this. Again, there are just so many other games that keep bumping this one down...

  • I really like stealth games. I've been going through all of the Splinter Cell games, and this one's next. To be honest, I really just want to get to Blacklist, but I want to play all the games in order, so I'm doing that.

  • Despite this coming and going from public consciousness incredbly fast, I am still excited to play it. I think the setting looks really fascinating. I really like Sci-Fi...

  • Sequel to Analogue: A Hate Story

  • Just continuing on in this franchise...

  • I pre-ordered this due to my love of Samurai history and aesthetic. If I could commission one game it would be an isometric Samurai RPG set around 1500-1700. I know Shogun 2 is not a RPG, but it has the setting right. :)

  • This game looks like something I could really get into due to the open world and base management features.

  • The first game was crazy but a very unique, and therefore fun, world to be in. I am hoping for the same in this game once I finally get to it.

  • This looks fun. The art looks great, and the reviews were good. So, this continues to be on my list.

  • This game just seems like it has a really cool premise - something different than many games. Therefore, I wanted to support it and try it out.

  • I really want to play through this whole game, but I just keep getting distracted by other games. So, I'm just going to leave it on this list and try to get through as much as I can this fall.

  • I skipped this one when going through my Summer List, because the reviews weren't great, and I decided there were other games I'd rather play first. However, I do still want to play this game, if only because I love stealth games and the Thief series.

  • I like to play cute, fun games in between so many other serious, dark games. I especially want to play this in 3D, which I usually don't care about at all.

  • I am playing through the Monkey Island games with my wife. I'm excited to finish out the franchise with this latest game that has more modern design sensibilities.

  • I know this is supposedly not a great game, but I just want to experience it for myself (especially because I built a new PC just a few months ago and want pretty things to look at on it...).

  • I just built a new PC, and I heard this game is pretty. Plus, I do like stealth games a lot (as I keep saying).

  • I really want to play this, but there are just so many other games that keep bumping it down.

  • I played about eight hours of this and just got bored. I loved Fallout 3, but I just think New Vegas wasn't offering me enough of something new. However, Fallout 1 and 2 are my favorite games of all time. Therefore, I will finish New Vegas, if only to get more Fallout.

  • I can't explain exactly why I'm drawn to this game, but I think the dog-fighting looks exciting and fun. Therefore, I'll give it a shot.

  • Yes, I know this isn't very good. However, I'll play it on iPad, because I like the Deus Ex franchise.

  • I bought this last year, thinking I'd get right to it, but I didn't.

  • I didn't own a console when this came out (because I primarily play PC games). I always hoped this would come to PC, but I can't wait forever. So, I'll get to it on PS3 when I can. The length is what keeps pushing it back, as I have so many other long games I'm in the middle of or want to start first. However, I really want to play this, so I honestly could end up just starting it on a whim before many other games on this list. :)

  • I own this and Virtue's Last Reward. They look like games I could really be into, especially after all of Patrick's praise.

  • I like adventure games and Double Fine, so I backed this game. Excited to play through it. It just hasn't been a priority, since I know I'm waiting for the second half, anyway...

  • I completed the main game, but I'd still like to play through some of the DLC.

  • I really am interested to see what the story mode in this game is all about after all the praise it received.

  • I never got to this one despite liking the first game. I'm bummed the series may never properly be completed. I still want to play this, though.

  • I've wanted to play through this series for a while, and with the great reviews Divinity: Original Sin received, I really feel the itch to jump into the series. ...However, with Wasteland 2 and Dragon Age: Inquisition coming out this fall, I'm not sure I'll get to Divinity until next year...

  • I know there were some negative things said about this game, but it looks like an interesting story, based on the trailers, and it also had some positive things said about it.

  • The main reason I want to play this is because it is inspired by the Book of Enoch. I heard it's pretty good, too. :)

  • Another adventure game that I'm excited to play.

  • It's obvious from the rest of my list that I spend most of my time playing PC games and, more often than not, darker and grittier story-heavy games (compared to Mario, at least...). However, I know this is one of the best games of last generation, and I do want to play it.

  • I played one campaign of Civ V and enjoyed it. I want to play with the expansion packs, now.

  • I'm really curious to play The Darkness and the sequel based on the chatter that happened when the second game came out. It looks like an interesting experience, at least.

  • Last year, I bought the Metal Gear Solid Legacy Collection and played Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2. I intended to keep going through all of the games but never made it to MG Solid.

  • This just keeps getting knocked back on my list due to other big games I want to play first, but I still hope to get to this.

  • This just got way too much cult following for me to not play it. I think I'll make it one of my Halloween games this year. :)

  • I've never played a Modern Warfare game (or Black Ops). I figure I should see what all the fuss is about. ;)

  • Looks fun.

  • I was really excited to play this when it first came out, but I decided to wait for a sale, and then I kept pushing it back on my backlog...

  • This was at the top of my Summer List, but I decided to push it back until I buy a Wii U. I feel this game will be much more enjoyable when played on the gamepad on my couch, especially because I really struggled to get back into it a couple months ago...
