You can read up on it here. http://darksouls.wikia.com/wiki/Bonfire_Ascetic

I suggest choosing one as your starting gift if you think you might need to farm a specific item from an enemy. I wish I had taken one as I've found them to be pretty rare.

There are actually a couple of merchants that have a limited supply of them (like 10 or something) so it's not that bad.

I think it is more "shocking" random people on an internet message board think they are more of an expert on a topic than someone else. :)

problem is that we are in the dark souls 2 section of the forums, so yeah, people in here probably are experts, and even if they aren't they sure as hell know more about this game than Brad. so not really that shocking ;d

also, remember this is Brad we're talking about. He's pretty much always wrong :o (that's why we love him)

I've been running around with a Club +10 lately and enjoying that. I love the moveset on my Drangleic Sword +3 but I don't have any more twinkling titanite to upgrade it so I'm not using it right now. Don't really know what to do next to be honest. Thought about using a Raw Stone (If i finally find that stupid thing) on my club, but I heard something about Raw ruining scaling? You guys know anything about this?

@dragon4234: @minipato: @choi: Thanks duders! Yeah, I saw the way past the Smelter demon, but I thought he unlocks some branching path. I guess it was my hubris that got me to keep ramming my head against him. Yeah, makes sense that the Blue Sentinels summoning would be infrequent due to most Way of the Blues being low levels and how there doesn't seem to be many invaders at all. From the way people were talking, it seems that there isn't a reusable item like the Red Eye Orb in Dark Souls?

Ah so that's what that Pharros mechanism did! I was referring to the one in the Iron Keep right next to that annoying archer in the Smelter Demon area.

I'm pretty sure that this specific Pharros mechanism is there to allow you to run on those hot lava stones and get the treasure. You jump in the pool, get wet, and then try to get that chest nearby.

Alright, so I'm doing clean-up of all the stuff in NG before moving onto NG+, and the Darklurker is giving me a lot of trouble. I'm running a STR/DEX build (level 125) with a +10 raw halberd, and I'm sitting at about 20 effigies. If it didn't cost me an effigy, I'd just bash my head against it until I figured out his patterns, but I think I'm going to run out before then. I did however save all of my Soul Vessels, so if it turns out that I can respec to something much more damaging to it, I'm open to suggestions.

can't help you with the boss fight, but i can help you with your effigy problem - use a ring of life protection. when you die, the ring breaks and you just have to repair it for 3k souls and you can use it again. you don't go hollow and you don't lose souls. it's incredible ;d

I've just gotten to the Lost Bastille (being away for the opening weekend and looking for a house has really reduced my Dark Souls time) and so far haven’t upgraded a single weapon as titanite seems scarcer than it did in Dark Souls 1.

So, basically, I'm just wanting to know if I should stop worrying and upgrade my swords or squirrel it away for later.

yup, stop hoarding and start upgrading :D you can buy titanite shards and large titanite shards from merchants and they have unlimited supplies of them, so don't worry (however you should think carefully about using twinkling, slabs etc. you can't buy those as far as i know).

Patrick got in touch with VaatiVidya on twitter. I don't know whether that is for an article he is planning on writing or for this. Either way I'm looking forward to what ever it is.

Edit: I should clarify for anyone who doesn't know. Vaati is a guy on youtube who talks alot about the lore of the Souls series.

That actually has me interested in this feature. Definitely much more so than the alternatives.

Mmm, yeah, that actually sounds really interesting if they can get him. EpicNameBro would be another one that'd be nice to have, but there might be a few issues, being that he actually knows the game, probably, better than anyone else right now.

ENB is always a get, but he's in Japan and scheduling a skype chat would probably be a lot harder than getting Vaat. Not that he's less of a get; I think Vaati has better "camera" presence than ENB does. Bro tends to ramble quite a bit while Vaati is succinct and to the point.

The main thing with ENB is that he's under an embargo since he already beat Dark Souls 2 and he's involved in writing the guide for it. Vaati is fine so I'm curious to see what kind of write up Patrick will have.

Yeah, that was what i was talking about. Vaati and ENB should have similar timezones, since i believe Vaati is from Sydney, the difference between there and Japan is 2-3 hours, depending on daylight savings. But yeah, since he did the guide thing i dont' think he's in a position to really talk, and getting him when he can't say anything but knows everything is just really awkward.

sorry for derailing your conversation duders, but I still can't believe that a guy from youtube (!) with a username 'EpicNameBro' (!!) is actually a pretty awesome person. it's mind blowing and i think we should all stop whatever we're doing and just appreciate that for a moment :D

Wouldn't be suprised if FROM gave them permission to show some stuff because of the crazy amount of Souls content on the site lately :D

Wow! Everything looks amazing (dat lighting). March can't come soon enough for sure :o I just wish that someone who actually knows how to play video games showed this one off. It's like the 3rd or maybe 4th video of DS2 I've seen, and every single one of them was just awful, play style wise. Rolling into attacks, not hitting anything or healing in super dumb moments. Also, people are still saying that Dark Souls is a SUPER HARD GAME? Ugh. (It's not, especially in NG and I bet that 99% of people that are saying that DS is mental, haven't actually touched NG+). Whatever though, amazing video and I'm suuuper excited :D!

btw. what's up with Classes? They're just like in the first game, right (by that I mean that you don't really have to care about them because you can spec however you want)?

I didn't even realize that my Xbox had downloaded a 13 gig patch and that's pretty cool. No loading screens, no install screens, no annoying popups urging you to install the patches.

Could you please fire up DR3 for a bit and look if anything has changed? Maybe they´ve somehow fixed a bunch of issues with this patch?

The game became 1.5 GB bigger post-patch, indicating very sloppy patching by putting up the whole goddamn game up as a patch. I guess scum like Capcom can do this now after the $10,000 patch fees were waived by Microsoft. This is probably you downloading the (1.5 Gb) DLC in advance, so you can buy content you already spent bandwidth (and energy & time) on by downloading a 100 kb key.

This is only part 1 of 4 of 52 GB worth of mandatory updates, enjoy the all-digital future.

thanks! :) my xbox downloaded the whole patch when I was sleeping so I don't really give a shit about this and i'm enjoying the all-digital future. enjoy whining on the internet about stuff that doesn't affect you (i'm guessing that you don't have the new xbox and/or dead rising 3).
