By pure coincidence, I'm playing Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, and keep arriving at the same locations in the book and the game. Also reading in the book about the people I'm working with/against in the game. Kind of cool.
I remember seeing a video clip saying they were removing headshots instant-kills because while the one camper sniping everyone is having fun, the rest of the people on the map are having a lousy time. You can still headshot people; just no insta-kills if I remember correctly.
In cinematic games like Uncharted or Assassin's Creed, I'll leave them off because I like watching the scene and not having my eyes drawn down to the subtitles. Sometimes in games with terrible voice acting or that are set in a certain country, I'll enable the foreign language audio and English subtitles. (I once played Onimusha with the Japanese audio and English subtitles enabled, then turned my TV all the way to black & white to give it the feel of an old samurai movie. Pretty cool.)
So, is Activision going to come out with it's own "OnLive" style CoD player, or do they just think that MS & Sony are going to process all of those new monthly transactions on XBL & PSN for free?
Now that Blockbuster online has added game rentals to its service free of charge, I'll be renting the linear, single playthrough games like God of War & Assassin's Creed, and buying the large, open-world RPGs like Fallout & Oblivion, along with whatever my chosen online shooter is at the time.
Since I have completionist tendencies, prefer expansive open-world RPGs ("life-stealers"), and have a 2-year old son, my backlog is quite long. I agree, if you have a backlog like mine, buying older, cheaper games just makes good sense. Since gaming is such a mainstream media business now, you don't have to worry about finding out of print games like in the old days. If you can resist the New Release shelf (helpful if you're not a big online player), you'll always find something in the $20 range you've wanted to play.
I finally finished Oblivion's main quest, but still haven't finshed all of the Factions or DLC. Coming Up: Fallout 3: GoY GTA4 FFXII
Now that Blockbuster has merged its Online Movie and Game rentals, I should be able to get some shorter, linear games out of the way now. God of War, Assassin's Creed, etc.
I definitely treat my favorite game franchises the same way I treat my favorite film franchises. Especially when a new installment comes out, I'll take the opportunity to play the previous games in the series before starting up the latest one. I've played through the Legacy of Kain saga a few times, and am currently playing through the first three games of the Metal Gear Solid saga before I finally finish it off with Guns of the Patriots. I'd like to go back to ES: Morrowind because I know how little of the world map I'd uncovered by the time I'd finished he main storyline, but the gameplay doesn't hold up well after playing Oblivion. When I get access to another 360, I'll probably play through Halo and Halo 2 before I finally get to play through Halo 3 for the first time.
