"The Official Video Game" Sorry, I'm confused (again) is Call of Cthulhu already a thing to license? Like a book or something?
Call of Cthuhlu was a short story by H.P. Lovecraft. Its also a Metallica song (well, technically that's Call of Ktulu but...). There was also a series of tabletop RPGs called Call of Cthulu which was (I believe) officially licensed with the Lovecraft estate which is horror themed, I'd imagine that's what the game would be based on.
matt skiba seems a lot more fun to be around than tom and the singles from the new blink-182 album remind me of the "less good" songs from the second half take off your pants and jacket. that new album could be great. its guaranteed to be better than neighborhoods or that terrible ep at least.
Seriously. I like Alkaline Trio a lot so I could be biased, but Skiba seems like a really good replacement for DeLonge.
So, earworms. Paul McCartney's Wings has both the curse of being a song I hate with a burning fire (a trait I think I got from my mother) & being one that gets stuck in my head. And is stuck there now because I had to find the video on Youtube. It's so fucking nauseating & twee.

Wasn't there a Bolt Thrower 7 inch given away with a copy of White Dwarf back in the later '80s? Before my time reading White Dwarf (which would be about 96 until 02 I guess, aka my high school years). I didn't know Bolt Thrower until after I got out of Games Workshop games but they are pretty cool.
The recent release of Age of Sigmar is something I've read about at a remove (ie the Something Awful forum thread about it & the death of GW) and it's been weird. In the sense that the "stripped down" rules really really over-simplified things.
Another thing vaguely related is the popularity of GW in the UK. Ian Williams isn't kidding. It was gaming when I was a kid, they've got a store in pretty much every city in the country, I didn't even know about D&D and tabletop RPGs until I was into my 20s. Fantasy Battle & 40K were trad gaming. There's very little in the way of independent local game shops which seem so familiar in the US. I really regret that. I feel like I'd love to have gotten into TTRPGs as a kid & now I'm in my early 30s & how the fuck do you find a gaming group in your early 30s?
I'm not a big fan of unions, well I'm neutral, but I think they sometimes get a pass when some are just as self-serving and corrupt as anything.
Game devs seem like they could use some sort of organizing though. I'd just do something else though. Life's too short. Then when people wanted to make games they'd have to convince you to work for them by treating you better. I kick myself for not asking for more money due to the drive I make to work, for the dev hardship I'd ask more than double.

Some unions aren't great. But even a bad union is better than having no protection whatsoever.
Yeah, game devs get paid much better than people working in 19th century factories, but look past that. A big part of the drive to create unions wasn't about pay as it was about conditions. That included being expected to work long hours, and a lack of basic safety requirements. These are ideas which people in software development would benefit from.
I don't care how much I enjoy what I do & how much I get compensated for it, I work so I can do things I enjoy in my free time. If I don't have any free time then why the fuck am I even bothering to work?
