Jeff's opinions of Kojima/his fans pretty closely mirrors my opinions of Hideaki Anno stuff (or more specifically Eva I guess, as I do love a lot of his other work).

Boy I really wish I liked this game. It may be more on me for expecting it to be a rhythm game, but it really barely is, and it's more of a "runner with notable music". Music that outside of the "boss" levels they don't give you enough time to actually get into because the levels are crazy short. Only being able to do well on a level through sheer memorization and not good reflexes also feels bad.

I'm also not a fan of loose, vague story telling because it left me with 0 emotional investment and the final level felt like it should have been impactful but it just did... Nothing. Like a lot of indie games I've tried it feels like it does 1 thing (style, in this case) really well, but is a lackluster overall package and it's a bummer.

Boy, people are REALLY misinterpreting that "prestige games" conversation. It was more about all of Sony's first party games being kind of same-y tone-wise and wanting more variety. Maybe make something like a Ratchet & Clank again, not "they should make worse games" geez.

And as someone who's not into basically anything that gets labelled as "prestige" (TV or games) I kind of agree. All the stuff that gets called that tends to not be my thing for a variety of reasons and people acting like they're the only things worth enjoying because of some belief in their "objective" quality gets exhausting.

This was a total blast, people playing games they just enjoy and having a good time is all I can ask for really. Also, for a bunch of people who don't have credits outside these games, I'm genuinely enjoying the VAs and writing, in fun, cheesy kind of way.

Also fun fact for people: This Nancy Drew VA is Ivy Valentine in Soul Calibur (Since at least 3, maybe longer).

As someone who was less than thrilled last episode, this one was a lot more fun. I can see why the "leave the room" might bother people, but it was worth it for Vinny hitting it first, and the potential to have 1 or 0 people left at least once.

There are times where it feels like they've never played a 3D platformer before (mostly from an exploration standpoint, I get not knowing the controls with how they're playing), but whatever! I'll also assume that their setup is making it so no one can tell the difference between purple and blue.

This is like Kingdom Heartache, but the gimmick is actually funny.

I think I played every card game represented in that binder at some point. Semi-fond memories of playing in tournaments/leagues for some of them, I might even still have the badges of the Pokemon leagues somewhere.

There's actually a GBA game for the DBZ card game. It had an "anger" meter as a mechanic!

For movie + dev combo:

CyberConnect2 and Macross: Do You Remember Love?

A gorgeously animated mech action game, and then instead of bursting into QTEs, a song starts playing and it becomes a rhythm game set to the action. It's basically my dream.

@mb2814: Oh cool, thanks for the link! I'd seen some stuff from him talking on Twitter about it, but never listened to this and this kind of behind the scenes stuff is super interesting.

@benpack@janmanJust to get some weeb stuff out there:

That Cyborg 009 you mentioned actually just got released (I think for the first time since like, 2004) after a whole journey by the company to get the masters from a bunch of weird places (like Sony?). It's supposedly a good release, and I've looked into getting it myself. There's also an 3 episode thing on Netflix that is Cyborg 009 vs. Devilman that is beautifully ridiculous.

Ultraman is actually getting new Blu-Ray releases for the first time in the US starting in I think October, and they plan to go through every series (it's still running) which is pretty exciting.
