This game looks so awesome to me. It's one of the reasons I really want a switch these days... I heard the demo had lots of performance issues so hopefully that is cleaned up and as a bonus we get JP VO !
The timing on that Mr X Punch to the face is still one of the most perfect things, you couldn't even script it to be that perfect.
Yup.
The ceiling on physical comedy in video games is so high, but to line all the variables up and get gold like this is nearly once in a gametime. lol one of my favourite clips in recent memory.
I have been waiting to see what this game looks like after hearing about it on Three Moves Ahead what feels like *forever* go... exciting! Those painterly maps are a good start.
The Mako isn't just disliked because it's slow, floaty and has some issues with aiming and staying upright. You also mostly use it to travel long distances of sweet nothing. You occasionally have a cool setpiece moment with it during a story mission, and it's cool for that, but mainly you use it for sidequests on random planets. Every planet you can explore in Mass Effect 1 has some random mountainy featureless terrain that's a)not easy to have fun traversing with the Mako and b)isn't exactly exciting to look at. Then you get to the actual bases/caves where firefights happen and every interior is one of like, three or four? As much as I wished ME2 and 3 improved on this stuff rather than just remove it, I don't feel like very much of value was lost.
I've heard there were some exciting things to find in these side missions(a shifty cow and one of those krogan worm monsters), but I never saw those during my playthrough.
I think this is pretty much the case..
However! I do want to say / admit that I did enjoy some of my long, empty drives across planets. Maybe I'm just a roadtrip fan but every now and then the slow quiet appealed to me. Not a bad way to listen to podcasts either. While it makes sense, on paper, that you need space in between the excitement, the balance on planet exploration just didn't work out. A big issue in ME1 is that even when you find that rare thing, it's still put together with the same 2-3 tilesets for environments they had. Rough stuff.
