I got to a mission where there were 3 sirens, a couple other basic enemies, and an one that launches airstrikes from across the map. I figured that was just bad luck of the draw, but soon every mission had similar enemies where the whole squad needs to use all their actions just to take down 1 of the tougher enemies. Which is rough when there's 8 other enemies who are also right nearby and want to shoot you, mind control you, and bomb you from across the map. This was on the easiest difficulty.

I'm hoping there will be mods or updates that will smooth out the weapon damage/tech tree a little more. You can get upgrades from stealing or becoming friends with factions, but those still don't seem good enough.

It might be a little too challenging for me past the point I reached.

According to IGN's review editor on Twitter, the game apparently adjusts its difficulty on the fly if you save-scum? This would've been nice to know!

I love this model, but I've never been much of a save scummer in games like this or Fire Emblem, unless I fucked up in like the first turn or two. They should have an option for permadeath or "casual" like the FE games do now.

And good QL, got everything I needed to decide if I was interested in seeing more of this game.

Hey @janman, when I watch quicklooks I want to get a taste for how the story and dialogue are. So even though you've seen it I want to get a sense of how the writing is and when you skip through it I miss that. Good quick look, however.

Agreed, still a very good quick look, and I wont pretend I know the perfect balance of story vs game play. I think the solution is probably more Jan lead quick looks so he he can get in the same kinda groove he gets it when he's producing.

I picked up BL2 on PS Plus a little while back and played through it. It was fun, but it definitely showed its age and the writing was impressively bad.

I don't understand the widespread Tiny Tina hate, though. She was bad, but so was everyone else who opened their mouth. Maybe I didn't play all of her missions or something, but I don't remember even interacting with her very much. Did everyone hate play her DLC or something? When I beat that game I was super done with it, no NG+ or DLC for me.

If I ever get a hankering for more Borderlands I'll just give the Pre-Sequel or the BL2 DLCs a shot. Really don't see much of a difference between this and the remastered BL2, other than this seems like way more of a technical mess.

It seems kind of weird that you wouldn't want the soundtrack that explicitly goes with the game your playing. Still a fun show.

Kinda disappointed they blew past the story mode, I'm sure there were fun anime goofs to be had there. Still a good QL.

I could totally get behind a Star Fox stream or retrospective show on each game in the series.

@engineno9: They haven't touched BL2 in ages and they believe it's the the same game as that, so all of the improvements are lost on them (and a lot of the people saying it looks exactly the same, I guess).

I've been playing Borderlands 2 recently and this looks very similar with minimal innovation on the formula. Even the inventory management and UI looks too similar, which I thought was awful in 1 and 2.

The UI is similar, but I don't know how much different they could make it? I mean, for what the game is, it works fine. In fact in 3 they put inventory slots into two columns now, which is such a small but meaningful change so it doesn't take as long to scroll through everything. Not to mention I think the actual aesthetic of the UI itself looks much sleeker than in BL2/TPS, which I honestly didn't care for at all.

There are ton of changes in 3 that are just glossed over or ignored all together in this video, and by seemingly many users here. The movement and gunplay probably being the most significant and obvious improvements aside, the characters have multiple skills finally that allow for bigger build variations. Vehicles are now fully customizable. A lot of it is all very iterative, but to say it looks exactly the same as 2 is a lie. Especially visually. BL3 looks gorgeous and there is significantly more detail and more involved animations in nearly everything I've seen so far. Those saying that they would believe that this was BL2 if they were told it was are full of shit or legally blind.

As for the overall formula, that's just these games. It's the same kind of thing they've always wanted to make: a loot game that's easy to play in small and large chunks in the vein of Diablo. There's not a ton you could do with the structure of the game without changing the flow of it completely. I think the promise of going to different planets is a pretty good new hook. Yeah, I would like to see more involved quests, but that's not a dealbreaker for me because the core loop is usually satisfying enough. Plus it's not like they just pump these out. It's been 7 years since BL2, yet yearly or bi-yearly sequels that change even less seem to get less shit.

I just finished BL2 for the first time on PS4 about a week ago and this looks almost exactly the same to me to the point where there's almost no chance I'll pick it up anytime soon.
