  • I remember playing DOOM for the first time on a laptop using some crazy keyboard configuration. Luckily, controls have come a long way but the core gameplay in DOOM still holds up. My favorite FPS ever, no doubt. The sequels were fine and all, but Ultimate DOOM simply has better atmosphere and levels.

  • Ironically, I only really got into this game about two years ago. I had played it many times when I was younger but I thought it was kind of silly (which it is!). However, I wasn't aware until recently how well-designed and outright fun this game is.

  • Quite a departure from DOOM, but I personally loved the themes of the 4 worlds. The weapons felt great and the challenge was just right. Quake still holds up quite well with the right mods!

  • All alone on a dying ship trying to outwit an evil AI. It can't get much better than this, and in fact it really hasn't in the following years. Other games can pick and choose the elements they want from SS2 but none have quite stood up to the sheer creepiness and feeling of dread this game offers.

  • I guess you could make an argument for SS2 and Deus Ex being RPGs but they always seemed shooters first to me. Deus Ex almost transcended both genres though by being exactly the game you want it to be. Sure, not every element in the game is set up for every playstyle, however, the crazy things you can pull off in this game continue to amaze me.

  • Insane. Fun. Super Serious. On paper a game with a Duke Nukem wannabe and shooting lots of monsters ALL THE TIME doesn't sound that great. However, it is, and this is simply the most fun I have ever had in co-op. The new updated HD versions are great, I hope this kind of gameplay never really dies.
