WORTHY OF MORE RESPECT 0

Heavenly Sword is a beautifully done interactive movie, and the gameplay is more than solid, but it's over far too quickly. It feels as if Ninja Theory focused on presentation and experimentation much more than content, but the result comes across as a very solid first try at developing for the PS3. Much has been said--more like overtly chastised--about the SixAxis being implemented in games. The best games (Uncharted, Ratchet and Clank, etc.) use the motion controls as limited additional immers...

EXACTLY WHAT THE WII NEEDED! 0

Much has been made about the Wii being a "kids' toy", or a "party fad for the casual gamer", or even "a showcase for Nintendo's first party titles with extremely poor third party support." Well, I'll attempt to describe just how incorrect No More Heroes makes these statements. Before renting No More Heroes, I waited a few months. It seemed like an interesting idea, but there was so much talk about Suda 51 making such odd games that it took me a bit to take the plunge. After playing for about 15 ...

NINTENDO'S MOST OVERRATED FRANCHISE 1

I first played Super Smash Bros on the N64 in college with some roommates, and it kept my interest for all of about an hour. When Melee came out for the Gamecube, I could not figure out why it was so popular (one of the, if not THE best selling titles for that system) and really didn't care to find out for myself. There has been such a interest in Brawl since it was announced, that I knew I had to try it out eventually. In a nutshell, my thought is it's Smash Bros. on the Wii, no more and no les...

REPETITIVE, BUT STILL GREAT 0

When the Assassin's Creed trailer came out almost a year ago it looked incredible: great graphics, smooth looking gameplay, and a very interesting setting. The game itself had some mixed reviews, and I've finally gotten around to playing it for myself. The setting itself is somewhat misleading, as right away you realize that the main character is actually a descendant of the assassin in the trailer, and you are tasked with unlocking the secrets of his actions. The premise is that scientists have...

NOT QUITE AS AWESOME AS MOST SAY 0

Does GTA IV live up to the hype? Are the controls vastly improved? Are the graphics as great as everyone is saying? Is Niko Belic a compelling character? Does the story live up to GTA standards? All these questions and more were being asked--still are by some--a few weeks ago. The answer to all is: yes and no. An honest and impartial person would immediately understand that no game could live up to as much hype as the amount that surrounds GTA games. That said, GTA IV is a very good game, in man...

KOJIMA AT THIS BEST 0

Hideo Kojima was quoted about a couple months ago as saying that MGS4 was a disappointment for him. That the game turned out to be 1/10th as good as the one he had envisioned. This had all the gaming websites in an uproar, saying the PS3 was officially dead now, no more hope for Sony, etc. He later said that it was a cultural misunderstanding, that because he is Japanese his modesty was mistaken for disappointment. I completely forgot about this hubris while playing the game, and now I'm thinking...
