Games Slayed in 2016

List items

  • Played the 2016 PC release, hence the 2016. A good action adventure itch scratcher. Didn't find all the collectibles but I got what I needed out of it. Might even check out the dlc at some point.

  • Didn't get around to this one until well after it was released. Was a slow burn with many false starts, but man, once it got me hooked I was all in. If the first major DLC release is any indicator I well not be disappointed with my season pass purchase.

UPDATE: I was not disappointed! Just finished the Blood & Wine DLC and it was a great way to wrap up the series.

  • Hahahahahaha yes! So I've been slowly chipping away at the witness but I can only play that game in short bursts. So I would detox by firing up some Doom. Having only ever played the shareware version (just the first episode) I figured this would be a good way to wash the pretentiousness away AND knock a game I have been meaning to play through at the same time. Plus I found out that the zdoom engine automatically loads WADs from steam installs, so no need for buggy dos emulation. Plus it works on any doom engine based game (Imma lookin' at you Heretic). So yes I can say I beat doom plus the bonus fourth episode from the ultimate edition.

  • Finally a game for this list that legit came out recently. After sinkling many hours into games I haven't really been enjoying lately, it was refreshing to spend 4 hours in a solid narrative.

  • The most innovative shooter I've played in years.

  • This game came out 6 years ago? Felt more recent than that. At any rate got myself into an RTS mood lately and this scratched the itch nicely.

  • Another backlog game that I have wanted to finish for some time. Being a fan of the previous games I have mixed feelings about this one. I should collect my thoughts on this one.

  • A solid character driven release with an interest mystery. All in all a good send off for the franchise. I'm curious to see what Naughty Dog does next. (Also the Dash Dingo cameos where a nice inclusion).

  • Rip and Tear, ya know? Rip and tear.

  • I don't usually play "visual novels" but the premise of escape puzzles and intriguing story was what brought 999 to my attention. I've been hooked on the series since. My guess is that the Zero Escape series scratches an itch that I miss from oooooooooold games like Myst.

At any rate Zero Time Dilemma did not dissapoint. Curious to find out what Aksys gets up to now that they wrapped up the series.

  • PlayDead sure knows how to make a little boy death simulator.

Joking aside, this sorta game is what I'm referring to when I talk about "puzzles organic to the environment". If I could I would smack "The Witness", grab it by the collar and say "See this? This is how you blend your puzzles in the environment and make it compelling!"

It goes in some strange and fascinating places. And that art style: says so much with so little. I only wish there was more.
