@joemotycki: I had no trouble with that set until the last one. I can't find any angle on the panel that makes anything line up. I've tried stepping back from the panel, standing at an angle, walking around the tree on the left side to see what the view looks like from behind - nothing works.

Lots of good advice in here already.

I would just add:

  • Try re-inserting the old GPU and/or using on-board video if the motherboard has it to determine if the issue is definitely with the mobo & not the new video card.
  • Your motherboard should have a reset jumper on it somewhere. The manual that came with it should list the location and the steps for resetting it. If you don't have a copy of the manual, try going to the manufacturer's website & searching for it.
  • There should be an on-board battery (looks like an oversized watch battery) - sometimes removing the battery & re-inserting it can reset the board.

Were you wearing a grounding strap when you replaced the GPU? At a minimum, remember to work on a low/anti-static surface like a piece of cardboard & touch a metal screwdriver to the case before removing screws & wires.Whatever you do, just be careful not to cause any new issues.

As someone from the Prairies, I can only say, how dare you!?!

Have you tried a hard reset? You need to know the model in order to find out the precise order for a hard reset, but generally it involves making sure the battery is charged, then unplugging from power & holding the power switch for 20+ seconds. You may need to do a hard reset two or three times.

Failing that, @eddiephlash is right that you can get a newer model for a good price.

@travisrex: Yeah, I generally find Jeff's rants on the Bombcast funny, but sometimes when he spars with Brad there's an uncomfortable edge to it that I don't like. I remember Brad describing CoD as boring left-trigger+right-trigger. I thought it was pretty funny, but Jeff got very exercised about it.

Usually in those discussions Jeff is all about mechanics & objective game play over other considerations, but his tendency to lapse into loudly insisting his subjective opinions are objectively true seems to push Brad's buttons.

At that price limit, I think you'll be hard-pressed to find something quite as good as a Nexus or Sony tablet as others have suggested.

I recently bought a couple of tablets for a co-worker who wanted something affordable for her grandkids, but she had some odd requirements (3G/4G unlocked + recognizable name brand + no more than $250 total). These are the ones I found: LG G Pad but I can't say anything about the quality, 'cause I just handed them over unopened.

I have an Amazon Fire 7 (third gen., I think), and it's been fine. I waited until new models came out, then got mine on sale. Amazon forces you to use their modded version of Android, so no Google Play Store & some apps are hobbled because Amazon's OS doesn't get updated nearly as frequently as Android. You can root them, but it voids warranty, so it's usually best to wait until the tablet's a year old. All that said, Fire tablets run the Netflix app in HD perfectly. I haven't had any issue with e-books, audio books or comics (using ComicCat).

No access to the Google ecosystem is definitely a big drawback, but if you can live with that, Fire tablets are definitely more affordable than most with similar features. Fire Tablets

The first one that springs to mind is Robert Yang: Robert Yang's blog

There are a few other people I can think of who have written about art, furniture, costuming and/or architecture in games, but mostly one-off articles. I'd think your best bet would be to check out Gamasutra - they seem to devote the most space of any online gaming publication to articles about art & design.

I just installed an R9 380 4 gig a couple of weeks ago (hooray for sales!). I'm running Win 7 64 bit & I had just upgraded my CPU & mobo a month or so ago - so far, so good.

The latest Catalyst drivers seem to be fine. I've been re-installing games, maxing the settings and checking performance one game at a time and I haven't run into any issues [knock wood].

@frostyryan: The criteria that @vikingrk listed:

  • girlfriend [who is a horror fan] would be into watching
  • games with horror elements
  • solid gameplay
  • doesn't center around scaring the player

Viking didn't say they want games that are the opposite of horror/scary, just that they needn't be centered around it. Hence why I explicitly said I was suggesting psychological horror rather than jump-scare heavy experiences based on the examples Viking listed.
