I saw this story yesterday and it does seem to be the real deal:

Vita FTC Settlement

According to Fahey, you just need your PSN ID and the Vita serial number to claim your compensation. YMMV.

I wonder which person/boss do Vinny and Jeff both report to?

I love jazz & esp. live performances. Since many of the albums I'd recommend have already been listed, I'll just throw in a few films for good measure.

'Jazz On A Summer's Day' was a film made of the 1958 Newport Jazz Festival. Look over here... It's a fantastic film that feels like stepping back in time. Monk, Anita O'Day, Dinah Washington, Louis Armstrong - it has performances from some of the all-time greats and even gives a glimpse into jazz' roots in blues as well as its evolution into R&B and Rock & Roll. Since you're into drumming, check out this Chico Hamilton performance of 'Blue Sands' from the film. It's probably my favourite:

Ken Burns' 'Jazz' miniseries is probably the most comprehensive and just all-around incredible documentary made about jazz. Burns worked closely with Branford Marsalis on it, so it definitely has blind spots when it comes to Fusion & anything else considered non-traditional, but even with that caveat, it's an amazing love letter to the genre. The series is available to stream on Netflix Instant and Amazon Prime.

If you have Netflix (or the willingness to search through YouTube), they have two collections of live performances that are essential: search for 'jazz icons' and 'montreux jazz' and you'll find hours and hours of incredible live performances (mainly from the 1960's & 70's). The 'Icons' films are great for standard jazz and Montreux is where you'll find some of the more eclectic & non-traditional. Examples:

I think Alex and Vinny are really funny together. People like to give Alex shit, but he's the best writer on the site, and his deadpan dark humor I think is hilarious

^This. This is how I feel. Vinny & Alex Quick Looks are my new favourites. Their Quick Looks are witty & self-deprecating and they give games a real chance.

As someone who uses Creative sound cards, I know how maddening audio issues can be. Yours is a hard one to diagnose without knowing more about which drivers are installed and what settings you're using.

Your motherboard has a built-in RealTek audio chip - it's possible that it's conflicting with the sound chip in your GPU. I use an AMD GPU and even though I don't use the HDMI port, I still have to completely disable the GPU's sound processor in order to have audio work.

If you go to Start-Control Panel-Sound, it should show you which audio devices are being detected & which are in use. For example, mine looks like this:

No Caption Provided

I disabled the motherboard's RealTek audio in BIOS, so it doesn't show up in the Sound panel or in Device Manager. Also, the AMD chip is shown as 'Not plugged in,' which is why there's no level meter next to it. In your case, the AMD HDMI output should be the only sound device with a level meter next to it & you should be able to highlight it to both configure & set it as default.

While it's theoretically possible to have both the RealTek & AMD audio chips enabled at the same time, using the 'Set Default' function, it's not recommended. Try Googling, "RealTek conflicts with hdmi," to see what I mean. So, if RealTek is showing up in the Sound panel and/or in the Device Manager, I'd suggest you start by booting into the BIOS and disabling it there.

Let me know if you need to know more about how to disable the on-board audio.

@larmer: Try saying the phrase, "annoying antinuclear [sic] agenda," to the more than 150,000 displaced people of Fukushima prefecture and see how they respond to your disdain. You could also say it to the 1-200,000 people displaced from their homes in the surrounding areas.

People of Fukushima

Displaced Residents

More Displaced Residents

Or you could try it out on any of the millions of people living next to the Pacific Ocean who will be experiencing the effects of the radiation for generations to come.

Jackie Brown is his best and it has one of the best opening credits scenes in the history of movies.

Yes, yes - a thousand times yes.

It's no coincidence that the script for 'Jackie Brown' is based on an Elmore Leonard novel. Tarantino didn't write it from scratch, so his usual excess was restricted by the limits of the source material. I think time will continue to be kinder to JB than to any of the films that Tarantino wrote & directed.

Also, two words: Pam Grier.

I know I'm about to commit heresy in the minds of the die-hard GB fans with my comment, but here goes.

I think Jeff is very good on a mic, but his personality tends to drown out the other guys when they do these live panels in much the same way it did when he hosted the Bombcast. Even though he calls on everyone one by one, it stills comes across (to me) as Jeff dominating the discussion because it goes from eliciting their observations to a series of mini Jeff rants.

Part of Ryan's genius as a host was that, even though he was quick witted and incisive as fuck, he was always willing to step back & let other people shine. Don't get me wrong, I think Jeff is trying to do that when he hosts, but stylistically it's just not a natural fit for him the way it was for Ryan. Jeff isn't a facilitator, he's a pundit - plus, the other guys defer to him so much in these settings that they end up going quiet instead of mixing it up & having a real discussion.

If I had my druthers, someone else would play the role of moderator for these events. I could easily see it being:

  • Vinny because he's fantastic at drawing people into a discussion while also holding his own,
  • Brad because he seems to do better with his own performance anxiety when he has a set of fixed responsibilities to focus on,
  • or one of the many 'friends of the site,' i.e. someone outside of their established group dynamics who's familiar with their personalities, the site content & the ongoing themes & memes.
  • I also think Drew or Rorie could be great panel hosts, but they have other responsibilities during these events.

I say, let Jeff be Jeff as a panel participant and, much like with the Bombcast, the overall vibe will feel more like the wacky circus that many of us love about Giant Bomb.

I second the vote for Creative earbuds. The EP-630s came standard with my MP3 player and lasted for app. five years. When I finally broke them I replaced them with a few different brands when they were on sale (Sony, Rosewill, another I've forgotten) - all of which shorted out within months. I finally went back to Creatives and this latest pair: Creative EP-830 has lasted for about two and a half years, even with all of the times I've snagged them on the screen door as I'm leaving for work in the morning.

They're comfortable and they don't have the in-line volume control that always seems to short out.
