It is most likely to drum up some quick hype for their games in hopes of getting more coverage once E3 opens. They are running businesses here, not a surprise birthday party.
It's fun for a casual fan of the FPS genre. Easy to pickup and play with little investment. Which is what I assume they are aiming for.
Ha, it's always so weird seeing someone you've only ever seen bearded without said beard. It's like they are missing part of their face.
It makes more sense if you look at each Persona game as a separate world from the others. Much like Final Fantasy, but less drastic.
