Hi. My name is Matt. I am a 24 year old gamer, with a career. I'm also a Full-Time economics student in Ottawa, Canada. I am not a pussy, 12 year old, idiot, moron, or countless other derogatory terms I've been labelled in the last couple days on sites such as JoyStiq.

I cancelled my Pre-Order of Battlefield 3 this morning before school. *Cue Explosion of OMGZ ITS JUST A BETA!!!!111!!*

Done? Good.

Yes, it's just a beta. A pre-release chunk of code and graphics that should not have been released by EA/Dice because it was not a finished product. But Ice, that's what a beta is, it's just a pre-release of a game so they can work out some issues. I know that, thank you. The problem is, my brain, along with many other people's brains, are hardwired to compare. When EA/Dice released this Pre-Alpha/Beta/Charlie whatever they want to call it to the public, they let thousands of people compare it to what they've been fed through various gaming media sites. Huge epic HD explosions, vehicles, tactics, story, scripted event. What we got on the 360 at least, was clipping, sound bugs, skating character models, awful looking textures, and no vehicles. Not one.

But Ice, some people were able to play on Caspian and they got to use vehicles and they said it was amazing. That's fine. I didn't.

So no, I'm not buying BF3 on launch. That isn't to say I won't pick it up at a later date if I'm wrong, and I will almost certainly post on my blog if I was wrong, and apologize to EA/Dice for comparing the product they showed me to the product they SHOWED me.

I think another reason that is nagging at me not to purchase this product, is this Origin thing. It seems pretty sketch, and with all the reports in the last few months about their EULA being screwy, and information they need to acquire to make your experience better seems to be pretty shameful. Especially on PC where the majority of people will be purchasing this game. Steam and EA not getting along is almost certainly going to cost them some customers on this title.

Oh well, rant over. Time will tell if my cancelling will be a good or bad idea. Fingers are crossed that I'm wrong.

well i per-ordered it july or august cant remember and i cant cancel it ( not that i want to ), so yah i guess i'll be getting the game Day 1

I am in the same position as you, the beta feels like pre-alpha stages. I really expected a better game from this, and it's that simple. I'll just continue playing Bad Company 2 until the game is fixed, if that ever happens. For now though, my preorder is canceled.

The beta problems were never really a big deal to me. Probably because I'm super laid back, and rarely EVER get upset at a game, especially competitive games, when something unfair happens. I respawn and start right back to where I was. I understand not everyone is like this, and to many, these problems are super detrimental to the experience. I loved BFBC2, and never having played BF2, the idea of combining those concepts seems really fun. When I played the beta, I still had a lot of fun. I REALLY hope the glitches are all ironed out by the time of release, but I will still pick it up day one to play with friends. I'll enjoy it regardless, based on the what I have played already.

Got my Pre Order in, stoked. Dumb asses in comment sections can be harsh, but you should have realized all that footage they have been showing is running on some of the best PC gear money can buy. That's not to say the bushes and trees alone in the 360 Beta didn't make me want to put the controller down right there. I too am disappointed that they chose to diss Call of Duty for months, then proceeded to release a beta that took place on a Call of Duty like map. But from what I've seen of Caspian border gameplay, and what I know about DICE, the real game is going to be a huge, epic, battlefield game. Vehicles, classes, upgrades... a modern Battlefield. Another of your concerns is irrelevant, the bugs, because you should have known that the 360 is playing second fiddle to the PC. Dice has made it clear on plenty of occasions, and while I don't expect the full game to be as riddled with glitches and bugs as the Beta is, I'll admit my experience so far has left me skeptical that they will be able to patch up all the issues on 360. But after the first week it's out I'm sure they'll clear most of it up.

No offense, but you should have considered those things before hand. They are obvious.

No, I'm going to wait to see exactly how its going to roll. I dug the Beta, but for some reasons I don't feel like it was enough. I mean, I just don't have time to play video games like I used to and Battlefield just isn't one of those games I feel I will have the most fun for the time I put in, with Call of Duty having attained the peak in this. That being said, I'm going to look at what people are saying in detail and go from there to decide exactly what I'm going to do. I have a few games that I would like to buy, I'd like to see how Battlefield stacks up to them.

Nope. I just don't have much interest in playing it on consoles. Waiting 'till I build a pc.

I'd really like to, but I'm saving for a Vita so I only have enough money left over for Uncharted 3 and Assassin's Creed Revelations which are higher on my priority list. I haven't actually played the beta. I downloaded it and ran it a few times, but I couldn't get it to run at a frame rate that I liked so I just didn't bother. I definitely want more Battlefield though.

I'll get it, but probably not for a few months. I enjoyed the beta just fine, it's more of an I-don't-have-the-money-for-all these-games-right-now issue.

Any yes, I am getting it on Day 1, on the PC like a battlefield game should be played.

I even preordered it on Origin in hopes of a midnight server-opening across Europe.

Even Metro, I was able to enjoy so much that I already then knew that the only chance I'd get of playing single player BF3 was if my internet or the servers would be down. Already got plans made for how I'll level up, already donated a twenty towards a clan server so my folks can get more rcon having folks to take care of hackers and griefers with, etc.

Pre-ordered.

I'll be waiting for the first wave of reviews both from sites and friends before I make any purchasing decisions on this game. If it ends up great, I see myself buying it twice. One for 360 to play with my friends who don't own nice PCs and one for PC so I can play the real* game.

*Kind of tongue in cheek.

I was also thinking about cancelling my pre-order for a while, but then I played some Caspian Border, and this happened:

1. I got into a jet and flew around
2. Hit the eject button by accident
3. Scrambled to open my parachute
4. Saw a tank
5. Took out my rocket-launcher
6. Blew up said tank while falling out of the sky
7. Landed and shot the guy driving the tank.

No. The Beta was bad but I think the influence of Bad Company is too prevalent. Battlefield 2 is long gone....

They let people like you into university? You go to Carleton U? Cus if you do that explains it brah...

Yes I change my mind I just had to lower my expectations and know its not a true sequel to bf2 and it has been dumbed down to appeal to the COD fans It's a shame that they went this direction but it doesn't mean I still can't have fun plus this whole summer has been a dry spell of nothing to play. I need to to play something damn it I been waiting for this game for years.

yes. I loved the shit outta the beta, caspian border was awesome, and i had few run ins with bugs or problems, or at least no more than i'm used to from BF2. And i'm excited for this game which doesn't happen too often anymore.

Ottawa and Carleton arent rivals. Because Ottawa is one of the best schools in Canada. Carleton is nowhere near as good a school. They pad their averages with quite a few scholarships. A lot that people who get them cant maintain. Quite ironically.

Nope. It is alright, but from what I played of the beta it sure as hell is a modern day first person shooter, and at the moment that is not at all what I want to play.

Still preordering it. I for one really liked the beta. Sorry to hear that you had such a bad experience.

its bf3 i trust dice the only issues they have in there games are server issues -__-. aside from the fact bc2 and 1943 were extensively patched to fix bugs . im not at all worried. theyve created a loyal customer what can i say. and i just recently got a good pc so yeah im gettin it day one.

although i am finding mouse and keyboard rather difficult to adjust to hopefully the game pad controls are good. yes i know mouse is for better for aiming but the movement not so much.

Yeah, I am. I see it. It's buried a bit (bugs and the like that I'm chalking up to beta weirdness), but in the moments it ran well, I fucking loved it. I know the exact point when it hit me:

Get in chopper as gunner, fly over point, spray down point with shots, take two stingers and bail, shotgun a dude just before landing. The pilot lands right near me, we half-way cap the flag when an enemy chopper pops up. Neither of us have stingers, so we have to make a run for a building as cannon shots and rockets explode around us (it helps that I was running this on the PC on high at the time; even without ultra in the game it looked pretty amazing). Third member of the squad spawns in (who is carrying a stinger), he takes a shot from the building just as the wall explodes in front of us. It hits the heli, disabling it. We run outside (in hindsight, a bad move), anticipating the people bailing, but instead the pilot crashes it right into us, taking out the whole squad.

Even with all the shit that kept cropping up, that was the most fun I've had with a game in a good year.

I think DICE knows what they're doing and they've had very few missteps in the BF evolution. The beta definitely had some issues but it really played like a true BF game so I am definitely getting it on release day.

The Caspian Border map makes it difficult not to.

Also, to all the "You're a Hater" folk. I'm no hater.

BF1942, Vietnam, 2142 + Winter Assault, Desert Combat 0.6, BF2 are all packed away in storage. Bad Company (360) is on loan to the woman. I've got no hate for EA or DICE.
