I think one good thing that could come from this is moderate people caught on either side of a damaging, politicised divide getting to mix together and share in their mutual appreciation of video games

IMO NeoGAF was pretty moderate, and it was always odd to see it described by people as extremely left-wing, the only way that was true is in comparison to the average message board/comment section which is usually just a garbage fire.

It was basically the only place that had the combination of having a huge community and actively tried to keep out people who couldn't display basic common decency.

I think that's just straight up wrong. NeoGAF was definitely far left when it came to pretty much everything in terms of political beliefs. Moderates were in fact heavily looked down upon on GAF, actually more so than people who swung right at times.

Depends on its use.

For the most part, no. I think it's a pretty lazy way to tell a story in a visual medium. If we're talking about something like Planescape, then absolutely. That game is built on storybook writing, and it works incredibly well. However, if we're talking about something like Dishonored 1/2, then no, it sucks. It ruins the pacing of the game completely.

Enjoying it, even though it does have some pretty obvious faults when it comes to presentation.

Like, I find it really annoying that the movement and combat animations look fluid and amazing, but the standard interactions with other NPCs are so lame. The conversations with people just look bad. Very stilted character animations, bad lip synching, and a lot of blank emotionless faces. I don't know, most of this game feels fresh and modern, but some aspects of it feel like an early generation 360 game.

Saw Jeff today playing Gears 4 on PC. It was a cool moment, but it also gave me the impression that the PC playerbase must be pretty small. I wish the multiplayer also had cross play support.

Anyway, did anyone ever bump into the Giantbomb staff in their multiplayer travels?

I absolutely loved the first two thirds of Interstellar. If you were to ask me my opinion on the film before act 3 began, I would have easily called it my favorite science fiction film of all time. Alas, all good things come to an end. The finale has some of the worst pacing I've ever seen in a movie. The consistent and steady pace of the first half is completely thrown away. It jumps awkwardly between rapid confusing progression and painfully boring exposition. The final act of the film just feels like a completely different movie. And the execution on some of the more magical twists was very poorly done. It's just terrible all around, and it ruined the entire movie for me.

I never seen an ending that managed to undermine a good movie as much as Interstellar did. If they just cut to credits when Cooper starts falling into the black hole it would have been a way better ending.

I think the movie starts to fall apart when Mann betrays Cooper. Everything beyond that point is just messy and needs reworking. However, yeah, I would be completely fine if it ended with cooper falling in the black hole. The ending would feel rushed, but at least the entire movie would still feel satisfying altogether.

The button mapping made no sense and made the fight way harder then it should have been.

It should have just been push the stick left or right and hit circle. What the fuck is this triangle bullshit.

I've played roughly 55 hours so far but I'm only up to mission 15, I feel so conflicted. On one hand it's one of the most fun games I've ever played. The mechanics and game feel are so incredibly polished and just feel good. It's also a great game to watch - my friends/girlfriend will genuinely ask me if they can sit down and watch me play some Metal Gear. Scanning soldiers and fultoning them feels great and rewarding, infiltration feels tricky and rewarding and fresh every time, and the constant new development of weapons keeps the gameplay interesting (just unlocked the rocket hand and it's amazing and I love it)

But maaaaaaan is it an awful Metal Gear game. When the cutscenes are there you see how much Kojima could have done with this engine. The camera, the lighting, the cinematography, the acting it's all top notch mouth dropping stuff. But there's so little of it, and the stuff that's there doesn't feel rewarding or fun enough. When I'm reading about the game having 45 missions or something like that, meaning I still have 40 left after 55 hours, and apparently the missions get worse and less fun, I have no idea if I'll actually ever finish the game. The only reason I was initially interested in it was for the story - see what happens to Big Boss and how he becomes who he is, but apparently you don't really get that.

So I totally see why people are down on it. It's a great "game" it's just not a great metal gear game, also it's stretched out. Kind of like Alien Isolation - the first half of that game is incredible and then it just goes on way too long.

It's a shame. If Kojima had more time/more money maybe we would have gotten a truly incredibly product. Instead we got fantastic gameplay and an ehh product. Such a shame.

Still one of my top 3 games of the year, but compared to something like The Witcher 3 which stays great throughout, it's easy to see why people would be down on this game.

You're spending way too much time faffing about if you're 55 hours in and only on mission 15.

People finish the game at around that hour count. You should probably mainline the story at this point if you still have interest in playing the game.

Destiny would work better with the George Lucas analogy

Yep, totally.

This Kojima vs Lucas comparison makes little sense to me. Even with Kojima at his worst, the MGS games have always been interesting and well made. George Lucas can easily compete for creating the most boring and nonsensical sci-fi fantasy films in the industry.

I don't find this funny or enjoyable. This twitch plays joke is getting old fast. It worked well with Pokemon, but games that require actual reflexes makes this entire concept lame and boring to watch.
