2010: The Experiment (my picks)

I liked this idea so i'm jumpin in on it myself!  There are some crazy games coming out in 2010 that i've been looking forward to for a really long time.

List items

  • This game is absolutely ridiculous in every way, but done very well. From the the over the top action to the silky smooth combat this game is both polished and crazy. I love the idea of "What if Dante was a hot chick and was more self-aware the DMC". I've even considered this for my GOTY simply because even after finishing it I keep finding myself picking it up and playing it again. Even if the face of games like Heavy Rain, Mass Effect 2, and FFXIII. I definitely recommend it to fans of either stupid fun or who loved DMC.

  • Ever since the first one really blew me away with it's sprawling story, fully realized world, and gripping characters i've wanted to know what happened next. And Mass Effect 2 improves on it's predecessor in almost every conceivable way. A better story, interesting characters, tightened mechanics, and upping the ante on the story this is one of those games you know your gonna hear about in the GOTY deliberations. It definitely cements Bioware as a powerhouse RPG company that like a Blizzard or Valve can almost do no wrong. I am already stoked for number 3 and cannot wait!

  • A game i've been waiting to play for quite some time now since it was first announced. Yeah i'll make the statement it's not really a "game" in the traditional sense. But if you ever needed another example to prove games are capable of being culturally relevant this is it right here. I would love to see how this genre unfolds and i think other games can learn from it's example of making things interactive. It's definitely not for everyone, but if you give it a chance i think you'll find it to be quite the experience. I found myself sucked into this game in a way a movie could never do, hell i even cared about the kid as if he was my own and i hate kids. Definitely a worthwhile experience.

  • Another game that has been years in the making and i've been impatiently dying to play. At this point i got it simply because i've heard about it for so long i had to know what it is. I am still in the process of planning it (30 hours in) but this game is definitely FF. I will warn ya it's a slow slow burn but once it picks up the story really grabs you and the game mechanics are fun and challenging. Not the best FF game, (i still reserve that for FF9 or FFX) but definitely worth the price of admission (on the PS3)

  • While i came to the first one a bit late and found it to be a frustrating experience, i still found enough to like about it to be excited about the sequel. I am pretty stoked to see the improvements they are making (like the improvised weapon). Plus i'm interested to see what crazy things they can come up with in the new setting. Definitely can't wait to play this game.

  • Again a game i have been waiting quite awhile for, the final chapter of the saga of Kratos and his quest to murder everything mythologically greek. I've really enjoyed the first two and this promises to be the best one yet. I really want to see how everything wraps up as well as how epic they can make this game. Here's hoping it lives up to the first two.

  • This one has definitely been on my radar. A kind of western take on the Silent Hill series that could prove interesting or be a colossal failure. either way Ryan has talked about it enough to pique my interest.

  • The sequel some said never should have been (me among them). Still i am curious to see how the game plays out and see what they do with the story. I'm a bit look warm on it, but interested enough to get it when i can.

  • Kojima Productions at the helm of a Castlevania game sounds like magic to me. one of the weakest parts of those games has been the story so if i can have that with some crazy 3D platforming I am down for taking down Dracula or his castle again. Time to whip some undead!

  • Mass Effect-esque spy game that i can choose how i spy (Bond, Borne, etc style) just screams yes to me. It makes me sad it keeps getting pushed back but the latest trailer they put out really got me jonesing for it again. Definitely mad interested.

  • Sorry I had to sneak an 11th game on my list simply cause this game needs to be mentioned. Everything they've shown me of this game makes me want to play it badly. I love Westerns and this seems like it can scratch that need to be Clint Eastwood itch. Rockstar knows how to make a world and this is a genre that hasn't been done to death. Cannot wait for this game.

Edit: And after getting it every anticipation was met and surpassed with this game. This is my favorite Rockstar game hands down and once again they have shown they are masters are storytelling. It also helps that the game itself is a lot of fun. Horse riding, shooting, hunting, all the game mechanics feel good and the game is a blast to play as a result. This might even be my 2010 game of the year for the ending alone. Definitely worth the wait!
