Well, I'll be danged. That totally worked. I had TWO Play & Charge kits that refused to charge, and TH3DOCTOR's advice worked perfectly. I didn't have to plug it "a little way in" at first - I could plug it all the way in, but after that the instructions worked perfectly. The first one only took one "plug-unplug" cycle, the second took 3 or 4. Then the light finally turned and stayed red and charged all night.
I wonder if this has anything to do with ignoring Microsoft's advice about letting the pack charge for a long time for the very first use. I willfully ignored that, but didn't think it would screw things up THAT much.
