Mediocre games I'll defend forever.

In no particular order, these are the games that objectively aren't anything special, but because of reasons (nostalgia mostly) I still remember fondly.

List items

  • Maybe the first fps I played on a ps2, I remember this fondly for the multiplayer. Co-op with bots mostly, sometimes competitive. Interesting levels from classic Bond movies and many different weapons kept me coming back to this one for a pretty long time. The single-player had mostly annoying missions, but the vehicle levels were a lot of fun. You could say this was my Golden Eye.

  • This goes for all the Naughty Dog Crash games. They were simple platformers that didn't really stand a chance against Mario 64, but the games had a charming personality, fun levels (fuck the water levels, though), secret levels and hidden items that was really fun to discover as a child. 2 is my favorite.

  • The GBC version, that is. I can't remember whether this or Pokemon Yellow was the first turn-based rpg i played, but it's definitely the game that taught me the importance of grinding. I replayed it recently and it held up pretty well. The combat is kind of bland, and it's easily beaten in a day, but it'll always have a spot in my heart.

  • My appreciation for this game was largely due to my insane Matrix fandom at the time. I liked how the game told a new story concurrent to what was happening in the movie (reloaded, I believe). I loved the stylish slow motion combat and the general look of the game. The vehicle section towards the end sucked really hard, though.

  • Reminded me of Crash Bandicoot in a lot of ways, it was essentially a ripoff. The thing I really liked about this game was the variety in the environments. There were four different settings: forest, city, haunted mansion and lava caves made into about 20 levels. There's not a whole lot to say about this game, as it is pretty mediocre overall, but for 6 year old me, it was more than enough.

  • As you can see, I had a real sweet spot for 3D platformers, and although I never got past the last couple of levels, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I remember the controls being a bit janky, but weren't all 3D platformers except Mario 64? I really like the movie also, and it was fun seeing those locations in a video game.

  • This game kept me and my friend entertained for a long time. The missions were shit, as was the story, but roaming around Nice, Miami and Istanbul doing whatever mischief we could was endlessly entertaining. That is, until we got our hands on San Andreas (no easy task for 11 year olds).
