@playerkilier: Idk what's happening with that, because when you flick something it makes a wall denying ask other projectiles. If you successfully flick it you shouldn't be getting hit.

@playerkilier: Sadly I've tried to backdash the fireball, it doesn't work. Even if you were to fully dodge the fireball, the heat knuckle doesn't come out fast enough to catch him before he hits you, and even if the heat knuckle did come out he would have to have been dashing for a while to be high enough. There are four options for this approach:

1. Block until there's and opening

2. If there's just enough time, super jump into Butt pound

And if he's far away and still tries it

3. Trishula, which gives you upper body invincibility and hits above you in case he flies over you.

4. Flick the fireball

Even if he dashes in front of the fireball, the flick will still hit, but to flick to fireball will take practice, I still have trouble with it.

One really simple combo you can practice is when you get a Counter hit 2H, while he's falling 5H, then heat knuckle + extend. That combo does at least 1/4 life with an easy read. Try to be holding back on the direction often too, so you can go into Hammerfall whenever you need to.

@playerkilier: Yeah man GGs. You were able to pull a bunch of stuff I'd never have the stones to do, like 4 6Ks in a row 0_0. Seriously though, you seem to be much less worried in your play style and that's a really good asset, whereas I sometimes back off when I sense danger. If you learn a couple more combos you'll be a dangerous opponent.

@gearsol: If you need some sort of communication we have a Skype group. I just use my phone for it cause I don't have a headset either.

With the number notation I feel it's easier to list long combos. It took a bit for me to get used to but now when I see a notation such as 2P or 6K, I know exactly what move it's talking about, which at that point is just dependent on your knowledge of your character. It's really just a personal preference though, I just think it makes listing combos a little shorter.

@gearsol: I'd say if your looking for a stick $80 or under look at your local Craigslist. I got a Hori HRAP3 for $60 and have since mosses in Sanwa buttons and it feels fantastic. The most trusted brands would be Hori, Madcatz, and Qanba. If you do find something cheap, make sure to look online to see if there are any common problems with it. And always get a stick that can be easily modded, so no soldering buttons to the board. If you plan to mod and only have enough extra money for either stick or buttons, go for stick first, it makes a world of difference between a good and bad stick.

It's also a personal preference but I feel like I can pull off certain motions and reach buttons much faster than on a pad. I still play pad for tekken and DOA5 though.

@gearsol: I have that stick and it's trash. You won't mind it at first but then you'll start to hate it. The stick is really loose, the buttons are loud and cheap, and there's no easy way to mod it. What's your budget?

@mikefightnight: Yeah man, same here. I was introduced to Guilty Gear by Blazblue and I thought "Wow this game is really hard." It was really tough to play on my PSP and I wasn't used to how it flowed. But I didn't drop it because I REALLY liked the character designs and music. I think the music is what always brings me back. I have a pet peeve in fighting games that if the Soundtrack isn't at least above average and/or fits the game tone, I won't even bother with it. The only exception is Virtua Fighter because that series is just too good to not play.

Guilty Gear's music always brings me into a mood. I'm always hyped when Holy Orders or Fatal Duel plays, preparing myself when I hear Awe of She (my personal favourite) and feeling a bit happy at Blue Water Blue Sky. The OSTs will never get old for me, no matter how cheesy or cliché they sound (Dragon Install in Xrd).

@esrever: I didn't really try to learn a fighting game until I played a bunch of Tekken 5 DR on PSP against my friend. We played for months against eachother, me with my Kazuya/King and him with his Lee. When I had AC+ on PSP I didn't even touch Potemkin, I usually played Baiken or Sol. But even with that it wasn't until P4A in which I REALLY wanted to learn. I never really took a preference for archetypes, playing Ragna/Bang/Noel in BB CT/CSE and Sean/Alex in Third Strike. I played around in P4A for a bit until I started playing Kanji, then I exclusively played him right up until Ultimax came out and everybody stopped playing P4A.

When I first got Xrd (Christmas Eve) I tried to learn Venom, that lasted about a week. Then I moved on to Sol, whom I played for about a month. I wasn't having any luck so I thought maybe I'll give Potemkin a shot, and now here I am. I think grapplers are my calling, even though I didn't Pot Buster much in our matches. I like the ability that grapplers have to control the entire match off of one good read, and in Kanji's case the mixup potential of of his command grab. A friend of mine also brought to my attention that I always end up picking mid-low tiers in games nowadays, I didn't really notice but in Smash 4 my mains are Ganon, Little Mac, Shulk, Jiggly, and Captain Falcon, but I play Ganon the most. I don't even choose by tiers I just think they look cool.

@esrever: He had fun, or at least sounded like he did while I was on the phone. We play Tekken a lot so he might be trying to get rid of the habit of how combos work in that game. He also says it's hard to do QCs on a pad, which I had been doing for years until I moved to stick. I'm not sure if he's getting better though, cause if I had had a quarter for every time I've told him to 2HS after a CH Stun Dipper I'd buy a house. He is pretty good at 3D fighters, we're about the same in skill. But he must be having trouble getting used to the flow of a 2D fighter, especially one as complex and demanding as Guilty Gear. I don't know how long it'll take him but I got used to the speed from years of BlazBlue CT/CSE, Marvel 2/3, Melty, P4A, and GGXXAC+ on PSP.
