My last session with Scorn ended because the game wanted me to kill 4 enemies that altogether took 14 hits to kill with 8 bullets. I was also out of healing juice which meant that the pinpoint accuracy acid glob spewing monstrosities killed me in one hit unless I stood behind a corner, waiting for them to get to me, hit them once and retreat behind the next corner in the corridor. When you run out of bullets you have to deal with enemies using the melee range pneumatic hammer weapon which can hit only twice in a row before requiring a lengthy cooldown. The combat experience just wasn't engaging to play since the actual tactic in dealing with these monstrosities was so dry.
I love the game for its atmosphere though and want to keep going on. I'm just dreading loading the game up because I have no idea where it will place me. For me just taking in the weird and gross sights and trying to piece together the story of this world (along with the obtuse puzzles) is what keeps me playing. Part of me wishes the combat wasn't there at all or it was at least easy enough to not be a barrier of engaging with the experience.
Speaking of small details that make the game look uncanny: I recently started the original Horizon on PS5 and I can't get over the algorithm run facial tics people have in dialogue scenes. I know without them the characters would look too still and unnatural but I'm not sure if the constant neck and eye twitches achieve natural looking people either. Idk it's too pronounced for my taste that I'd almost prefer Mass Effect style plastic dolls instead.
