@dasakamov: Just recently he bragged about cutting the line at wrestlemania for no reason other than he doesn't want to follow rules and his main thing to do in Mario Maker is to make levels that frustrate people and are impossible to finish. He might be better than when he joined GB but he still regularly comes across as an unpleasant person to his friends and strangers alike.

You clearly don't actually listen to any of the Beastcast as since Mario Maker 2 came out Dan has stated many times that he's finding it much more enjoyable creating fun levels that everyone can enjoy, rather than troll levels that just annoy people (or are designed specifically for one person in mind - Patrick).

FYI, you may think Dan is unpleasant (I disagree), but you're being unpleasant here too.

Related to the QL, I really dislike playing games for the first time with people that are really familiar with it and Vinny here demonstrated exactly why: everything you do is second guessed and it's always "I don't want to backseat, BUT..." and it's just really frustrating. Just let him play and don't say "pause for a sec Dan, I want to tell you how to play this properly" over and over.

Not sure why they were giving Annette so much crap during that cutscene.

Alex: This lady has weird priorities

Annette: I'm sorry, I'm trying to save millions of lives

Does she?

"Sorry, you have a terrible mother" (not sure who said that).

I thought the writers and performances sold Annette's character really well there. I thought you could easily tell how upset Annette was at having to look at the bigger picture.

You don't have the attention span to spend 5 minutes reading a review, but you do have the attention span to watch a 51 minute video? That doesn't make much sense.

I'm still not sure I'd call it linear. It all loops back around the Central Processing area and I found it pretty impressive in the end (if you do continue on past the DLC, once you kill the next boss or two you'll find it all ties back together nicely). I know that in DS3 there are flying mobs that carry you to a different location, but isn't it the same in the first game with Anor Londo? I'm not sure I see the distinction between those and the trains in The Surge.

I also think that saying it's linear implies you just go from point A to B to C, which isn't really fair. There are plenty of branching paths across both the main game and the DLC. It's easy to get lost and wonder which path is the "right" path. It all leads to the same place but you're not just going down a straight corridor.

The performance also seems a lot better on the Xbox One X. I played it at launch on a PS4 Pro and I remember it chugging fairly often, but I recently re bought it (Amazon had a great deal for the complete version for £12 digitally), and I'm enjoying playing it again to see the DLC. I never finished it the first time because I found it a bit too frustrating (and I wanted to sell it before the value dropped), but with tempered expectations and a much lower asking price (plus the fun DLC theme), I'm enjoying it a lot more.

Randomly as I'm writing this Deck13 just announced The Surge 2 for 2019!

@sethmode:

I agree, those hundreds of other differing opinions are wrong. Yours is the only correct one. Well reasoned.

Man, Dan's reasoning against Dream Daddy just gets worse and worse. The idea that it "doesn't do anything new" is bad on it's own, but it's particularly bad considering it's being made in the face of two people that feel turned off by Dating Sims really enjoying it.

Meanwhile, he's standing up for Uncharted Lost Legacy and Destiny 2 so...yeah, the idea that something had to do something new just feels like an excuse to cut Dream Daddy.

Abby was the one repeatedly stating it did something new for the genre (that has no other experience with). He just wanted her to substantiate that comment, which she was unable to do.

I think people need to stop using Dan as a scapegoat. It's like in MOBAs when an organised team picks on the last random person to belittle and blame for the loss as a way to mask their own inadequacies. Dan isn't the best team player and it isn't helping, but it's not the reason GB are consistently failing. Alex is often incredibly passive and hides under the guise of "I'll cover this tree" while the rest of the squad engage in a firefight. I think the biggest problem though are the missed shots. All the teamwork in the world isn't going to help if you can't hit the other players.

I don't expect high levels of play and I don't blame anyone for missing shots, I'm only bringing it up because I think it's unfair to constantly go after Dan when there are other problems. If you look at the previous stream (in which Dan didn't play) things didn't go any better.

If a few different UPF's is all it takes for you cancel your premiums....well then you probably shouldn't have it to begin with.

What, because we voice our concerns we're suddenly not considered worthy enough to have a premium subscription? Blind loyalty never helped anyone, whereas a bit of constructive criticism (which most of this comment thread has been) can do. Maybe we'll return to a regular UPF format and maybe not, but as long as it's civil then there's nothing wrong with people voicing their opinion.

Consider this though: your comment is one of the rudest posted here. How does that help anything?

Wait, the last Friday of every month is no longer a UPF? When did that happen?

I appreciate that you've been hit hard with people leaving/moving to GB East, but you guys already have two podcasts a week and they also provide a way to engage with your audience. You really don't need to add a third podcast and the casual way that it's been dropped without any actual announcement just feels a little underhanded to me. Of course it's your own website and you're within your rights to do what you like, but at the end of the day it is a premium-only feature that we effectively pay for. A bit more communication would go a long way.

UPF was one of the main reasons I subbed (along with video series like Life is Strange and Until Dawn, and of course to show some support in general) and I feel like the quality (and apparently the quantity) of UPF has dropped a little recently. I hate leaving feedback like this as it makes me feel like such a dick, but I just feel like the enthusiasm or excitement has been a bit lower recently and as things stand I can't justify renewing. I'm echoing Zabants sentiments here; I don't want to threaten to cancel or try to demand changes, I'm just airing my concerns before my sub does expire.
