I'll definitely avoid someones work if I dislike them. It's not always necessarily a conscious thing for me, but when you know someone is for sure an asshole, it's difficult to view their work objectively.

I enjoyed my time with Sleeping Dogs. It's a fun but not very polished game. GTA is miles ahead in terms of story, characters, driving mechanics, mission variety and overall scope. I'll admit the melee combat is much more engaging in Sleeping Dogs, but GTA V isn't at all a melee combat focused game.

I mostly can't stand that place because of most of their employees and sales pitches. There's a guy at my local Gamestop that's always incredibly nice, knowledgable and helpful, and never tries to give me the hard sell.

But theres also a bunch dumb fucks that work there.

When I went in last year to pick up a copy of Hitman: Absolution, the asshole at the counter asked me if I preordered it. When I said no, the guy actually shook his head at me and said "you should have preordered, man. You missed out on a lot of good stuff." What a total cock. It's bad enough they have to try and sell you a preorder for every game thats coming out in the next two years, but to fucking scold someone for not preordering? instead of walking out and buying the game somewhere else like I should have, I said "I don't like when game companies put shit like that behind preorder walls."

Best part is, there was no additional content of any real value for that game. The sniper challenge was available for download a couple of month later. I downloaded it, played it once and never messed with it again.

I'd hate to see how offended people would get if Rockstar actually took a more subtle approach to their satire. As it stands they lay it on pretty goddamn thick. Franklin, Michael and Trevor are all pretty over the top caricatures and none of them are meant to be taken all that seriously. If they were, how could you possibly like any of them? They're all horrible, sociopathic mass murderers!

Even if you try to role play the game while playing as Franklin and Michael, and only kill the people that stand directly in the way of you completing the game, you're still going to have a body count of about 300 people, most of which would be cops who were just trying to do their fucking jobs. I'm sorry but if you kill any amount of people in the interest of making money, you're already a total piece of shit. I think the Trevor character is brilliant because Rockstar actually tried to shape a character around the way people typically play their games.

I didn't like how much the missions revolved around being blackmailed by the FIB or just doing favors.

Of all the story telling mechanisms Rockstar continually re-uses, I think this is the one I'd like to see disappear the most. I can't recall if it happens in 3 or Vice City, but San Andreas, 4 and 5 all have plot threads where you're doing the bidding of some fucking shady government agency. I guess it's the way they justify the characters being able to engage in all sorts of bat-shit crazy criminal activity without being immediately hunted down and locked up or murdered, but it's a way more integral part of the story this time around. I didn't really get the impression from any preview coverage that I would basically be working for the government against my will for most of the game's big missions.

Don't know much of the game you've played but, if you don't like Trevor after that you're not in for a fun time. He doesn't get any more pleasant.

@ksaw: Try going to games, ps3 games, new ps3 games. I believe that is the wording on the tabs, that is what worked for me.

Thanks for the tip, I found the page and hit download, but it only brought up the download for the pre-order blimp, and wouldn't even let me download that because apparently 111 gb of memory isn't enough to download a 100 kb file. When I went to my downloads list it was there (the blimp) and it let me download but still no sign of the full game. Shit is janky.

Oh well, it'll have to work eventually. Right?

Rockstar and Sony have been making a huge, embarrassing mess of GTA V's digital launch on PSN. First, people dig through the files to post spoilers. Rockstar promises a pre-load for North America but Sony says that no, that's wrong, that it'll be available to download at 12am EST on Tuesday. It was only at 1am that I've been able to get the download working. Not a single tweet or acknowledgement from Rockstar or Sony about the delay in getting it up. I have to go to work early in the morning so I've been staying up to start the download, then go to sleep, so this is actually hugely inconvenient, but it's 18GB so I wanted to start it now.

It's just so stupid that the digital copy is the one that takes the longest. I could've gone to the store, bought it, and driven back before I could even START the download on PS3, and then played the game for hours before it'll be done downloading. So yeah, while I think it's ultimately just some dumb first-world problem, I think this is the kind of thing we need to deem unacceptable right now before the next generation starts.

Yeah I typically hate to let the petty shit surrounding stuff as unimportant as games bother me, but if I i'm going to waste my time doing something I'd prefer it to be something I might enjoy.

Like playing this goddamn game.
