Never Finished List
Games that I never finished for one reason or another that are worth mentioning.
Maybe some day I'll get back to them. They are ordered by my interest in a replay.
Previously on this list:
- Final Fantasy Tactics
- Previous Comments: I love the game, but it just drags on and takes way too long to play out each battle. I may play it on an emulator capable of frame-skip.
- Thoughts Upon Completion: I ended up playing this on my Vita without any cheats or frame-skip. I played it after Jeanne d'Arc (an absolutely wonderful tactical RPG) which left me wanting more. It's hard not to compare the game to Jeanne, which came out 10 years later on arguably more powerful hardware, but it certainly wasn't as good. The story was OK, but it was difficult to keep track of all the characters and their motivations. The gameplay paled in comparison to Jeanne (understandably) with limited camera options and a distinct lack of mechanics. The job system however, was fantastic and leveling my characters was a joy--especially since you can kill all but 1 enemy and attack/heal yourself over and over to grind experience and job points.
- Secret of Mana
- Previous Comments: I know I played the hell out of when it came out, but I have no recollection of beating it, which means I probably didn't. I'll get around to actually playing it again and finishing it at some point, I'm sure, though probably via emulation on another platform. It had such an awesome soundtrack.
- Thoughts Upon Completion: I think I now understand why I never finished this. It was quite difficult and not totally clear how to get through. I ended up using cheats and a FAQ to help with both of those issues. The story (in the eyes of an adult now) was barely held together, the combat was a total chore with the worst hit boxes imaginable, and the soundtrack... the soundtrack is still top notch.
