I'm very keen for The Old Republic. Downloaded it since the latest patch/expansion and all the buzz it has been getting. Played it back at launch and still enjoyed it, if only for a month and purely as a single-player affair. It would be great to all jump in as a group.
Fantastic article. The people selling their personality through media are doing just that; they are providing closeness - even if it is one-way - to their fans. Certainly this doesn't entitle fans to assume these personalities are their friends, but exposure is the central tenet of the business, and a feeling of familiarity is an inevitable part of that. There are limits, just as there are limits in traditional relationships, but for a personality to think of their fans as nothing more than strangers is foolish. They have sold themselves to the world, and they should recognise the honour it is for their fans to feel as close to them as they do.
@hellerphant: I'm up for some online meetups, even if I can't make the in-person ones (as you said, Melbourne seems to be an insatiable time-sink!) Not sure what multiplayer games everyone's playing; I've really only jumped into Rocket League and and Marvel Heroes of late.
Well, I just wrapped up Mad Max, which I enjoyed significantly more than a lot of people seemed to. Fairly boiler-plate open-world shenanigans, but it really nailed the atmosphere and was a gorgeous game.
I'm currently dabbling in some older titles: Shadowgate, Mercenary Kings, The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing II. I'm probably going to start Wasteland 2 soon, while I wait for Fallout 4 to receive a few decent patches. I want to avoid another save corruption issue this time.
