Fume Knight is my favorite boss in Dark Souls 2, and one of my favorites in the series. I won't lie, it took me dozens of tries to get there, but once you get the timing down for your dodges the rhythm of the fight becomes quite enjoyable. I've beaten Fume without taking a hit. Nameless King is very similar, though I found him more challenging overall. Ancient Dragon is the only Dark Souls boss I haven't beaten solo, but I think that's just bad design.

The boss that immediately comes to mind as one I've given up on is the last boss of Salt and Sanctuary. I bet I could get the timing down the way I did with Fume, but I can't stand the platforming involved in getting back to the fight after each death. Knowing it's the final boss, and that there isn't any new content to explore, also kills my motivation to keep trying.

The Lego games are perfect for co-op. Most of the puzzles are designed for two players, the second being AI-controlled if you're playing alone. Neither the puzzles nor the combat is very challenging, so your wife won't get frustrated if she's a casual gamer like mine is. There are tons of them by now, and every game you'll play on the PS4 is highly polished and looks great.

I love the Soulsborne series, I have the platinum trophy for every game except Demon's Souls, and I hated DS2 when I first started it. That game is slow and clunky to a degree that's unmatched in the rest of the series. It's a horrible starting point for anyone new to the way a Souls game plays.

I haven't played Salt and Sanctuary, so my post isn't answering the question you asked; I clicked on this page because I'm interested in hearing more about the game as well. But I wanted to implore you not to judge the Souls franchise by its weakest link. It'd be like saying you hate Indiana Jones, when the only movie you've watched is Temple of Doom. I'm not trying to be one of those obnoxious Souls fans who insists you have to like what I like. I'll just say that if you have the opportunity to try I or III, I think either would be more likely to click with you off the bat than would II.

Aldrich is a tough one, specifically because of his arrow attacks. Don't be discouraged if you're having trouble with him. If you feel it's a muscle memory thing, try Redhotchilimist's advice. Clear out the Irithyl dungeon if you haven't already, and you'll be back in the groove. If you've already done that area, don't have any new areas to explore and don't want to grind in a section you've already played, then you can always kill Emma to trigger the next boss fight "early" and come back to Aldrich another time. Maybe a different boss with different attacks will be more to your liking.

I watched the Quick Look for just a few minutes before I decided this was a game I needed to play. After getting to the credits last night, I must say it delivered! This was the most rewarding puzzle game experience I've had since the Witness, and Linelight truly shares that game's strengths. There is no text; every game mechanic is shown, not told. You learn by doing. Even experimentation sometimes pays off in new and interesting ways. Each world introduces a new mechanic, and each puzzle builds on tricks and techniques you learned before. It's one of those rare games where you feel yourself getting smarter as you play. The music is fantastic - I found myself putting it on in the background while I wasn't playing - and the ending pays off in a neat way not unlike Monument Valley.

I was surprised to see there wasn't any discussion of this game on the forums. I'd love to see more word get out about this gem of a game, and see the small team that created it get the credit they deserve!

Thanks for the feedback. I enjoyed Guacamelee enough to get the Platinum, but felt done with Hyper Light Drifter after one playthrough. I don't think I'd include HLD in the category, either.

I'll check out Hollow Knight when it comes to PS4 "later this year". Until then, I'll give Momodora a look. I hadn't heard of that game until MajorMitch bumped your original post.

Really enjoyed this read, it's just a shame Ori isn't likely to ever come to PS4. That's really my only option for playing it. I love the genre, though, and got a thrill out of both Dust and and Axiom Verge, two games I saw mentioned. Are there any other "SpaceWhippers" you'd recommend?

My wife fell in love with the Witcher 3 to the point that she would tell me to go play video games so she could watch. It was her favorite thing to watch on television, over any show she could find on Netflix.

I'm eagerly waiting for the PS4 release. One of the nice things about owning that console is its library of quality indie titles. Apparently we'll be getting Hollow Knight on PS "later this year", whenever that happens to be.

Without spoiling anything, the last story boss is absolutely terrific. One of my favorite fights in the series, right up there with Artorias and the Fume Knight. The optional side boss can fuck right off. Very little about that fight feels at all fair.
