How bout top 3. You're just gonna see the same top 10, it's the Wii U.

Heh, you're right. These lists have largely been the same, and that's kind of the point. The bombcast couldn't come up with ten games. I'm not sure there are ten games I'd want to play if I got the console, either. So let's try it. Pulling from the lists so far, here are the games I would want to play:

1. Xenoblade Chronicles X - Played entirely through the previous game on the Wii, this would be at the top of my wishlist for a Wii U

2. Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - Real curious to know if it runs okay on the older console

3. Bayonetta 2 - Heard great things from just about everyone. One of the very few mentions that's not a Nintendo IP.

4. Super Mario Maker - Will I have fun creating/playing levels if I don't personally know anyone to share with? I'm worried the most fun I would get out of this game would still be the videos back and forth between Giant Bomb and Patrick Klepek.

5. Super Smash Brothers - I beat the shit out of my friends on the original game for N64 in high school. Also played a fair amount of the game for the Wii.

6. Super Mario 3D World - Because those games are usually pretty good, right?

7. Mario Kart - Because those games are usually pretty good, right?

8. Tokyo Mirage Sessions - Don't know much about this at all, but again one of the few games that isn't established Nintendo IP.

9. Kirby - I guess? My wife usually enjoys Kirby games, as long as there's at least some challenge.

Shovel Knight, Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, these are all great games I've played on other consoles. Is my list enough to justify a console purchase? Tough to argue, when I have several times as many games for my Playstation 4.

Inspired by the discussion during the e-mails of the latest Bombcast. What are your top ten games for the Wii U? I like the idea Jeff presented, of buying a Wii U instead of a Switch for Zelda because there's a library of games for the former. It's tough to justify buying a new console for just one game. Still, the bomb crew couldn't get to ten. If I bought a Wii U today, what ten games should I get for it?

I still follow Patrick and Austin on Twitter, but that's almost entirely because I started while they were at Giant Bomb and never stopped when they left. I don't follow anyone else at Waypoint, and don't ever visit the site. I tried listening to Waypoint Radio because I'm always looking for new podcasts, but found it tedious for a lot of the reasons mentioned already.

While he was at Giant Bomb, I was impressed with Austin's ability to speak with nuance and consideration about social and political issues related to gaming. Even when I disagreed with him, I felt I could have a dialogue with Austin. Apparently that was due to the influence of Giant Bomb. Put him in a room with people who all strongly agree with him, on a site where the primary focus is the social commentary around gaming rather than the games themselves, and all nuance and consideration of an issue is lost. I already know the positions and the arguments I'm going to hear before I ever start up the podcast. That's because it's the same discussion I can find in any number of corners of the internet. It's why I stopped following sites like Polygon and Kotaku.

I'm not against political discussion. Politics is important. I listen to quite a number of political podcasts, from the Pod Save America guys to Free Thoughts from Libertarianism.org. But politics doesn't need to be everything in your life. Sometimes I just want to hear what someone whose opinion I came to respect thinks about the story and characters in The Witcher 3. Games are my escape, my self-care activity to use jargon the Waypoint crew would understand. If I want to hear someone express anxiety over the inauguration of Donald Trump, I have better options.

My PC is ten years old and it's time to upgrade. I obviously don't use my PC for gaming, and I don't need much out of it, but I would like to give Plex a try. In particular, I'm a fan of a niche performance activity called drum & bugle corps; I have BDs and DVDs going back to 1980 and I'm intrigued by the idea of being able to watch those shows through Plex without have to constantly change discs. I've never tried converting DVD or BD disc content to a digital format. Can anyone explain to a novice how to get this done?

Bethesda says they want to implement mods "where users can do anything they want for either Fallout 4 or Skyrim Special Edition". We don't know what Sony wants, but we assume it's something less than that. How much less? We don't know. There's a lot of space between "anything you want" and "nothing at all". But Bethesda's response is that if Sony won't implement mods exactly the way they want, Bethesda is going to take their ball and go home. Do we really believe there isn't a point of compromise where both parties would be happy? Even if Bethesda is forced to concede entirely to Sony's limits, is it any better for the consumer to have no mods at all, instead of the mods Sony was willing to allow? Bethesda is rather blatantly playing the PR game here, and it just strikes me as incredibly petty.

I've been playing griddlers for years, solved every puzzle in Picross 3D. I can't wait to start this game, but Amazon only lists a Japanese version. Is this game getting a physical release in North America? Or will I have to buy this on the e-shop? My (brand new) wife has a 3DS, but I've only used it once - to play through Link Between Worlds - and am not familiar with the infrastructure.

I played this one fifteen years ago, so nostalgia undoubtedly colors my perspective. I have fond memories of this game, though. Like all Final Fantasy games, this one starts slow. If you've just arrived at Luca, then you're right, nothing much interesting has probably happened. The main character is a whiny brat. That's on purpose. He'll grow over the course of the game. The story is also about to raise the stakes significantly, especially after you meet Rikku.

A restart is a great idea, especially if you intend to engage with the convenants in these games. Sometimes there just aren't enough players around at your level to make those meaningful. That said, I've already got my platinum in I & III. I might join in if/when they restart II.

In all honesty, I find the game of the year lists to be extremely predictable. The only things that aren't predictable in the deliberations are the things people awkwardly decide to fall on their sword for and then argue about.

You're not wrong. Last year especially it seemed as though the staff was quicker to bow to the consensus, both inside and outside the Giant Bomb staff and community, rather than take a stand. Jeff and Austin of course made their passion plays, but from what I remember @nightriff nailed it with his line of "its in my top 10 but I'm fine seeing it go."
