@darkvare: It may well have been Prehistorik or Prehistorik 2. I remember it not being a straight 2D platformer but the art style of those seems right.

It was the late 90s, I'm pretty sure not post 2000 but maybe. I went to a cousin's house and played a game running on a PC. The game featured a caveman as the main character with a Flintstones-esque aesthetic but it wasn't a Flintstones game and I'm pretty sure it wasn't any licensed character I can think of. The action was sort of isometric involving running around collecting things, maybe jumping. The game may have been edutainment but I can't remember.

Edit: Game was 2D and the art style was cartoonish in case it helps.
