A +5 Lightning Claymore is one of the better weapons you can get your hands on in your first play through that endures for both PvP and PvE.

Also a +10 Fire Man-serpent sword would do for PvE.

there are things they don't mention, however. such as the fact that you can get to +3 rank in a covenant.

What they said.

Also, kindle all the bonfires to 20 Flasks, they carry over as well.

yeah, all but the first ones in Undead Asylum. Those reset on me, for some reason.

Kill Havel the Rock in the tower that connects Undead Burg and Darkroot Gardens and get his ring. That will boost your Equip burden so that you can wear heavy armor and still roll. You want you equip burden to be 1/2 you max for better rolls. So if you equip burden is 88.0 you want no more than 44.0/88.0 for faster rolls. 45.0/88.0 will have you rolling at a burdened rate.

Redirect the boulders rolling down the multi level stair set in Sen's Fortress so you can safely get to the bottom. Take a left at the bottom of the stairs and attack the treasure chest. If you have to gain ground, back out of the hall so that he doesn;t do something stupid and get onto the elevator and die on the spikes above.

Kill mimic, get the lightning spear. upgrade the lightning spear.

most of the humans in Firelink drop Humanity items. Patches also drops an axe. The trainers sometimes drop an extra charge of spells.

Kill the blacksmiths. they drop hammers. You can't kill the one behind bars.

Kill Gwyndolin, if you haven't. And the Firekeeper in Anor Londo. Also kill the Daughter of Chaos for an addition Firekeeper's Soul.

everything resets with NPCs in NG+, so kill away! it's just better to do any weapon farming before crossing over, as enemies will be MUCH harder.

The main reason to traverse the Great Hollow is for the multitude of Chunks you can find on the way down. Not to mention a small handful of crystal lizards. It will take a number of throwing yourself to your death to grab them all, just make sure you pick up the Ring of Cloranthy from the central area of the tree. You will go inside the hollow and fall through the floor, it is on the ledge just outside.

The second reason for traversing the Great Hollow is to get into Ash Lake, home of the Stone Dragon Covenant. This is also a dead end, so if you don't have means of teleportation, touching bonfires down here means you will have to walk all the way back up the Great Hollow. Ash Lake has one major danger that persists throughout the area until you take care of it, so living may not be an easy task your first time through here.

As far as progression, if you just killed Quelaag and rang the 2nd Bell, you don't want to dive further into Demon Ruins, even killing the first boss, Ceaseless Discharge is ahead of your path. When you rang the 2nd bell you saw a cut scene of a gate being lifted. That is Sen's Fortress and you can access it near the bonfire located inside the Undead Parish, near Andres the Blacksmith.

You can either go into Sen's, or go to Darkroot Garden/Basin and kill a few bosses there, or take the bird back to Undead Asylum and get the Peculiar Doll item and kill Stray Demon, heck you can even kill Pinwheel the first boss in Catacombs. I just wouldn't attempt plowing through Minor Capra Demon's and Minor Taurus Demon's in the Demon Ruins, seeings as though you just beat those bosses a short time ago.

Edit: And yes, for curse you want to buy a Purging Stone. Oswald sells them in the Bell Tower. I think the Undead Female merchant might have 1 or 2 also, but perhaps I am mistaken on her.
