My favorite games of the year 2009.

2009 was a tough year for me gaming-wise. I didn't really spend the money on as many games as I usually do (paying for a car will do that), but I still tried to get as many of the important releases as I could. I haven't even touched a LOT of the best games of the year yet, but my plan is to definitely check out most of them later on when the prices start to drop. So this is definitely not a list of the best games of 2009, just my favorite and the ones I spent the most time with.

List items

  • Infinity Ward asked me if I still like to hold down the L trigger and squeeze the R trigger to shoot dudes in the face. My answer was a bellowing "HECK YES, DUDE!" The single player campaign is jam-packed with "OH SNAP" moments. Every 45 minutes or so, I was on the edge of my chair with my jaw dropped and my mind not believing what my eyes were telling it. Total adrenalin rush. Oh, and the multiplayer is there too. Still just as great as it was last time around, and the small additions and changes make it feel less identical to the first Modern Warfare than it actually is. I haven't touched it in a little while, but it was all I did for the first couple months after its release, and I fully expect to return soon.

  • I'm a total Batman nerd so this game means a lot to me. Everything from the classic voice actors to the incredible atmosphere had me hooked from the start. The game looks fantastic and the story moves at a great pace that kept me playing till the very end, and don't forget the freeflow combat system. Beating up dudes has NEVER been this satisfying.

  • The first game I played on my shiny new PS3 and I wasn't disappointed. The incredible mix of parkour and shooter gameplay was the major draw for me. The story had its moments, sure, but all the different powers and general traversal of the city were what kept me coming back for more. The first thing I did after finishing my first playthrough as a good guy was fire it back up from the start to try my hand at being evil. This game deserves two playthroughs.

  • Diablo with guns! The first time I heard that I instantly became interested. Of course I had a feeling they'd somehow screw it up, but to my surprise, it was everything I wanted in a great, loot-driven RPS (role playing shooter). The story's a little thin but that didn't bother me one bit. Collecting and selling tons of sweet guns and other items was all I cared about! This game sucked about 30 hours out of me right when it came out, and it still has me coming back every so often to do more quests and find more cool stuff. It'll probably be a hundred hour game when it's all said and done.

  • Yup, totally Mario. And that's totally awesome.
