I enjoyed the discussion near the end about dealing with thoughtless remarks and accusations, especially Jeff's insights. He's right about knowing that while you can respond rationally and thoroughly, in the end, you can never make someone believe what you say.
I hope I can be as accepting of that as he is someday.
Vinny's disgust with Taco Bell was kinda scary. Did. . .did Taco Bell hurt Vinny? Was it bad?
Also, I fail to understand what relevance the idea of some people speaking poorly of DoAX3 supporters has on evaluating the arguments and claims upon which they base their outrage. Vinny's "bombs getting thrown from both sides" remark is a non sequitur. That those folks are thought of poorly by some others neither validates their claims nor invalidates the refutations of their claims.
Taking his remark as an expression of exhaustion over Internet outrage altogether, though, I get it. It's getting exhausting, especially when the loudest folks don't seem to know how to make or defend an argument.
Simply shameful. I barely messed with the extra modes in Mario Power Tennis, but the base game there was still packed with personality.
Little touches really go a long way. For example, all of the captains' Mega Strikes in Mario Strikers Charged are functionally identical, but because each one has a unique animation each Mega Strike feels special.
This game reeks of a moved deadline. Camelot can do and has done better. Nintendo either wanted the holiday lineup bolstered or wanted Wii U game development to wind down for NX.
On the bright side: Fuck yeah, Linkle! The Wind Waker cast got my interest on the Hyrule Warriors port, but Linkle now has my attention. Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam still looks fun and funny. I don't have Tri Force Heroes, but I'm happy to see it get DLC. The puzzle-centric level designs don't seem to compliment the loot loop hook very well, so a good stream of level DLC is vital. Speaking of which, I'm surprised and delighted to see Splatoon is still getting updates. Damned if I know how much of what's been put out was planned from the beginning, but keeping that game in people's minds is great.
Back to the dark side: Fuck Cloud. I'm sorry if you voted for him on the Smash Ballot, but seriously: Fuck Cloud.
Snake, at the very least, has Nintendo history, with the NES and GB games in the past and The Twin Snakes not being that old during Super Smash Bros. Brawl's development. Sonic doesn't have Nintendo history, but he does have history relevant to Nintendo courtesy of the 16-bit console war.
Cloud, though, has nothing. He's never appeared on a Nintendo console*, and Crash Bandicoot filled the Sonic role with regard to N64 vs. PlayStation. And to the best of my knowledge, he wasn't even a twinkle in Squaresoft's eye when it decided cartridges wouldn't cut it for FFVII.
Yet despite all of this, we get Cloud. Before Waluigi, we get Cloud. Before Simon Belmont, we get Cloud. Before CAPTAIN FUCKING N. . .we get. . .Cloud.
Fuck. Cloud.
(Also: Another sword fighter? Ugh.)
EDIT: Oh, and I kinda hoped for an announcement of a proper US release for the regular New 3DS. :(
@alistercat: I'm feeling the exact opposite. The world and designs look charming as hell, but I don't care for the Dragon Warrior Monsters-styled combat. Also, I didn't encounter navigation problems after playing the demo, but seeing Drew fumble around here put the final nail in the coffin.
@coolarman: I thought it had died down earlier this year until I found this timeline and learned that it not only never stopped but likely never will. :/
I'd never heard of SXSW until a few years ago, and ever since I only ever hear about how awful and commercialized it is, which then makes me wonder if this event was ever as good as people claim. Now, I read something like this and think "Wow. They really can't manage their brand worth a damn."
I'm surprised I didn't hear that old line about Disney vs. Warner Bros: If Disney is classical, then Warner Bros. is jazz. I don't know how true that is anymore, but it certainly was so back in their heyday.
Thinking about it now, I suppose it makes sense that Disney games were better received by people of a certain age than Disney shorts: Video games are the jazz to other entertainment medium's classical.
