EDIT: also it sounds like the GB staff doesn't know much of the details yet. Important to keep in mind as we speculate. Silence doesnt necessarily mean they're under an NDA or anything, could just mean they dont have info yet.
I picked up Money Puzzle Exchanger after the GBE playdate and holy cow is that game fun!!!! I play it every day on the train and it's a highlight of my morning. (Tho boy that story mode is hard....)
The day the SNES Classic was released originally, I happened to wake up at 5 am and couldn’t go back to sleep. I had no plans to get one of those but after tossing and turning for a while I decided I might as well do SOMETHING, so I stood in line at a Target to get one. It was cold and I felt terrible, but I got one. I’ve played it once and never touched it again. So that one feels like the furthest I’ve ever gone for games.
Hey i did something similar! When I was in college, I lived in this weird cross between a dorm and a townhouse. My friends and I all had our own rooms, but we shared a living room and a kitchen. I woke up the day the SNES was released at 6:30 for no particular reason, went downstairs. My friend worked as an on-call EMT, so she was sleeping on the couch. Not wanting to disturb her, I decided to go get Dunkin Donuts for breakfast that morning. The GameStop was right across the street, and I thought "what the heck why not."
I waited in that line for about 2 hours I think, and it was such a blast. It was cool to be wrapped up in a blanket, sipping hot chocolate and making friends with the other people in line. There were people there I'd never have met otherwise. We all banded together, and once the GameStop finally opened and we were let inside we cheered for each other as we each bought our SNES and walked out the door. I'd never done anything like that before! It was a real special experience, definitely the furthest I've ever gone to get a game, and it was all by accident!
Though if more hamsters were like their fictional counterparts then I may give them a second chance. ;)
hey now, don't be like that! hamsters get a bad rap just because they dont like to hang out with others much! theyre just nature's introverts is all. Plus, hamsters arent antisocial cannibals as much as they are balls of pure anxiety that need plenty of space to run and store food .... and when people put them in COMPLETELY INAPPROPRIATE, waaaaaaaay too tiny plastic critter trail cages they aren't getting the care they need! just like you wouldn't want to keep a great dane in a studio apartment, hamsters shouldn't be kept in too-small cages. i mean, if me and my 6'5" brother were locked in a broom closet 24/7 and all we got was a plate of food, i'd probably freak out and try to fight him too! Hamsters are extremely sweet animals, you just have to be patient with them, recognize when they're scared, do a little research into proper care, and give them time to warm up to you c:
Also lets be real: ALL rodents are wonderful, beautiful and very cute creatures. no need to pit them against each other! why fight when we could all be friends!
Your writeup seems reasonable but scoring Hammond above Hamtaro in cuteness is ridiculous and makes me think you're in the pocket of Big Hamster. Not sure how I feel about our resident expert being on the take.
Now now, there's a method to my madness! we're talking about VIDEO GAME Hamtaro! Specifically I was referring to the Ham Ham Heartbreak hamtaro on my original list. Which is very cute by default because 1) its hamtaro! and 2) its really nicely done sprite work. I had to normalize for cute sprite work because that gives the game an unfair bias against its competitors, and as a lover of hamsters AND science I won't have my work be tainted by that!
However, if we're talking about Rainbow Rescue Hamtaro, that wins by a goddamn landslide. I mean, look at that ham! It's so goddamn cute. Gold standard right there.
(though being in the pocket of a big hamster sounds WONDERFUL. i would love to be close to a big ham, give it a big hug. i think thats my ideal version of heaven? yeah.)
Don't forget Weird Ed's Hamster in Maniac Mansion!
I did not forget that ham. I mention him on my original Top 10 Hamster list as a dishonorable mention!!! We will not speak of what they do to that ham, but its horrible. Lucas Games will pay for what they've done, someday...
This is friggin' excellent but Hamtaro should be number one.
Thank you for your comment! We are kindred souls Bollard. I understand your frustration. But like... did you SEE them hams in Part Time UFO? Pretty good. Prettay, Prettay Good.
Title says it all! I want to hear your funny stories of glitches in VR.
Mine had to do with Job Simulator. The second I learned I could make photocopies of cacti in the cubicle, it was all over. I lined every possible surface I could reach with cacti. I discovered if I moved the cactus while copying it, I could even make them float!
I was like some sort of gosh darn cactus tornado, with about 100 succulents orbiting around me. Basically, I was Janet in The Good Place.
The best part was I made SO MANY cacti I freaking broke the game. HARD. I found myself suddenly clipping through walls and dropping through the floor (NOT a fun feeling), all while my hurdling virtual body crashed through a wall of floating plants. I don't know how but I made the game SO confused that even when I backed out and went to different jobs, the glitching continued! The game wouldn't let me advance objectives, object disappeared, etc.
This was my second-ever experience with VR, so while it did make me wary of how nauseating suddenly rocketing through a ceiling can be it did leave me with a pretty funny story.
So what about you? What fun experiences do YOU have to share?
I recently convinced my mom to play Animal Crossing New Leaf! She never thought to give video games a shot before b/c she figured all games were about winning. It's really interesting to watch someone who's never, ever played a video game figure out controls for the first time! Instructions I take for granted - like walking with the circle pad or tapping A to advance text - aren't intuitive if you're experiencing it for the first time. We'll see if she sticks to it. I hope so! :^)
I found an old picture of my dad opening a brand-new NES from the 80s this past Christmas, which makes me want to try to introduce him to some modern games! Unfortunately, I have no idea where to start. He's got a pretty short attention span when it comes to trying new things, so I'm having trouble thinking of what games might hook him very quickly. (His hilarious views on video game violence also make this quite tricky!)
EDIT: I just remembered! My dad's actually interested in playing Cuphead for a pretty cool reason. His grandfather was a semi-famous animator during the golden age, and my dad was shocked that there's a video game out there that looks like something my family has a lot of pride about :^)
