Now does the final boss have to be a literal pope or can the final boss be a metaphorical Pope? For example, there are a lot of JRPGs that have evil Pope-like figures as final bosses, but the Pope-like figure is not literally the Pope of The Latin Church.

@zombiepie: Blasphemous is not literally capital C branded Christianity, so if that counts, they only need to be a pope-like figure. This list is really only limited by what I know about off the top of my head.

If that is the case I would like to recommend Zera Innocentius from Grandia II.

Vitalis from A Plague Tale: Innocence is technically a Grand Inquisitor, not the pope, but he basically has a pope hat and is a very big time priestly sort up to no good so in my mind that was always as good as a pope fight.

Maybe an official pope battle in the sequel? We can hope.

Is it a pope or pope-like figure that you fight at the end of Devil May Cry 4? Been a while since I’ve played it but I seem to recall it being a religious fanatic leader of some sort…

Can't quite remember, but I could've sworn the main bad guy in the first Shadow Hearts was a pope-like figure...

@remixrunixlp: Googling "Shadow Hearts final boss" makes it sound like the game's final boss is "Meta-God," and I think the list of "games where the final boss is god" is a different, probably much longer list. But also I did not read too much into it so I dunno.
