I agree entirely with Ben, if 2 is anything like 1, that the level design presumes tight controls in a game that actually has just about the floppiest controls of all time. It might be Stockholm syndrome, since from my vague memory 1 came out amid very few similar games, but I'd actually say I liked 1 well enough - and with that said, it controls like they coded it in Klik & Play. The fact that they're releasing 2 in this ultra piecemeal fashion when the main selling point of 1 was that it was a long slog of number-increasing attrition is hard to understand.
@lionsy: I was kind of hoping this would be a Jeff joint, purely because I am convinced he would have said "this has nothing to do with Quake, get the fuck out of here" and that would have been the video. Rorie's version is more watchable than the concept I have constructed.
Edit: To your point, however, it was actually a Quake 1 mod first. Quakeworld for life!
@yyninja: That's a really weird take! You want their opinions to have been more positive than they turned out to be based on a game that you don't know is good?
Sorry to harp on you in particular, but I find the long-running phenomenon of "Giant Bomb is too negative!" complaints to be mystifying. The site was literally founded by people who were "too negative," for being "too negative." I guess that still places them at the cutting edge of what the gamer soul can bear?
