The tentative trials of Tao.

I'm getting better! Honest! Apologies for posting so soon after the last one of these but hell, I don't know how blogging works anyway.

Right, the last videos were relics of just over a month ago, since then I've put in some pretty casual practice up to this week where I really put some time in online. I feel it's kinda payed off, I appear to be beating people now who would've stuffed me previously. Not to say I'm no longer making stupid mistakes or not comboing properly but it's going much better.

Seems only right to start with another Noel match as that was one of my first victories online when I started this endeavor. This one didn't have the good grace to barrier burst early and stand still for ages like the first one however, so I really had to work for a win. There's a few times where I fail to block or decide to try and pull off a move that really isn't going to happen but overall there's less mashing and more coherence to play now.

Throws that weren't teched: 0
Failures to follow up on a lucky 6C: 4ish
Stupid pounce useage: 1

The other match that I feel I have to post is one vs a V-13 player who clearly outclasses me in every way. Just to show the caliber of people playing online, it'd be nice to match his standard of play at some point but that's probably a long way down the line. I think he was on the phone for rounds 1 and 3 as he later messaged me! But the trip to fantastical fish land and a Jubei cameo were success enough for me!

Rounds won: 2
Rounds shouldn't have won: 2
Cat people: 1

Anyway, thanks for reading if you got this far and I'll hopefully have some more videos up when BlazBlue: Continuum Shift releases here in October.

BLOG END!

I'm guessing that you're one of those UK players who got screwed over with the release date of Calamity Trigger? Having said that, I'm surprised you were able to pull off an Astral Finish with Taokaka, of all people, against a decent v-13 player. Hell, the only time I ever beat a v-13 online once or twice was as Iron Tager, and that was thanks to the fact that the guy didn't know how to use any of her more cheesy combos. Keep up the good work.

@DocHaus:  Hah indeed I am, but I'm savoring the few months I get with the game before the new one!

And thanks, although this paticular V-13 had destroyed me for 3 games prior to this one. He messaged me after to say he wasn't really playing properly for that game BUT I'M COUNTING IT AS A WIN ANYWAY!  I think V-13 is Tagers worst match up too, so it's commendable you beat them cheesy combos or not!

@mwng: Actually, I'd argue that a good Tager player can still occasionally beat a good v-13 player, as shown here. Yeah, Tager is slow and has a gigantic hitbox, but at the same time he can take like 50 swords to the face and still stand whereas Tager only has to bitchslap v-13 a few times to put her down.

@DocHaus: True, I tend to eat more than my fair share of  Genesic Emerald Tager Busters online which pretty much ends the match if he's got some hits in prior. This'll probably get worse too as I believe they dropped Taokakas health pool to be the lowest in the game for CS.

Wow, a player who doesn't spam v-13's drive.
Who knew they existed?
It's fascinating to watch you play as Tao, you've got a nice ariel mix up going there.
I got my copy on monday, and I'm pretty sure I'm a Noel/Jin/Rachel player.... that Noel player..well its easy to criticise when you're not the one playing the game.
It's a truly awesome game, and the fightpad makes a massive difference..especially with the dpad.

@Jazz:  Heh thanks. Don't tell anyone but my air game consists entirely of jumping Cs and Ds! Followed by failing to follow up with 236B!

I'm stuck with the regular old 360 pad, although my friend has a fightpad and they rate it, might look into it one day. As for character selection if you're just starting out Noel/Jin are pretty easy to learn as well as Ragna if you're entirely new to the game, Rachel is tough but she's very rewarding when you get her right! As for playing online I've had my fair share of getting pressured, panicking and button mashing like an idiot in an attempt to escape, so I can sympathise with the Noel!

Anyway, best of luck with it and tell me who you pick and how it goes!

Was this just Calamity Trigger? I have it in my collection, but I've never really seen it played "properly". I might actually give it a shot now. Is Hakumen any good/beginner friendly? I'll probably pick up either him, Tao, or the ooze guy.

@GetEveryone: Yeah, this is CT, CS comes out in about a month though, so I'll probably video my fail at that.

Anyway, Hakumen has some pretty simple but effective combos, wouldn't exactly call him beginner friendly but he's easier to learn than most of the cast. Tao has been a NIGHTMARE to try and learn and I think Arakune is pretty complex too (though I've not really tried to pick him up). Ragna, Jin and Noel to an extent are probably your best bets for starting out. Maybe Tager if you prefer a grappler.

I think DocHaus is working on a guide for CS so might want to check that out too!

Thanks for the interest!
