I thought it was a miscast, low-effort cash grab (Spider-Man and Marky-Mark aren't Nate & Sully); a pretty generic Hollywood Action Movie (TM) that panders to fans with fanservice from each of the games.
It's an "Uncharted" movie because Sony owns the IP; Tom Holland was cast because of his relationship with Sony and successes with MCU Spider Man (and to target younger demos); Mark Wahlberg has been trying to make an Uncharted movie happen for a decade (where he was supposed to be Nathan Drake), contractually (IIRC) they couldn't do it without him.
Basically, you could change the title and character names and you'd change NOTHING about the film.
The Last of Us is getting a big-budget, prestige TV series adaptation for HBO. Uncharted fans got "National Treasure" minus Nick Cage.
A nothingburger of vague, non-binding corporate speech aimed at the FTC and EU regulators to move the A/B purchase along--"See, we're playing nice! We're still 'Good Guy Microsoft' and not at all a monopolistic, trillion dollar mega corp with an internal company motto / mantra of 'Embrace, Extend, Exterminate!'"
"We'd love to put X on your platform" ...via Game Pass.
Pre-sale: "We don't know yet what our plans our / nothing will change."
Post-sale: "Yeah... all these are ours / platform exclusives now" ...unless you put Game Pass on your platform.
Read the article; the Ori devs had to beg for it and even then Microsoft only let it happen because it was Switch (and not the Playstation) and the game was "small enough," i.e. not a big deal in their eyes. Microsoft wasn't being generous or magnanimous.
I fucking hate Disney. I hate their near de facto monopoly on Hollywood and visual entertainment. I hate the US's laissez faire application of consumer protection and antitrust laws that have allowed companies like Disney (and Microsoft, and Google, and Facebook, and Amazon, etc.) to become as large as they are. I hate the total oversaturation of Marvel and Star Wars IP, which will continue, in all facets of life, until all the profitability has been bled from them... at which time Disney will just reboot things.
Children's books - early childhood literacy is a hallmark of future, lifelong academic achievement.
They'll have plenty of time for video games, and you'll have plenty of time to be the "Cool Uncle" / "Cool Aunt," but 4 years old is too young for a console or handheld.
Limiting screen time is important for childhood development.
I agree with @efesell, the actual embarrassment of a story was some nonsensical horseshit and there's nothing "borderline" about the character assassination; it was sexist and regressive.
Wow... no one's worried about Microsoft's aggressive market consolidation policies / monopolism?
I guess it's just me, then.
Do people start get worried / finally take notice when Microsoft buys EA, Take Two, Ubisoft, Annapurna, etc. etc.?
Oh, and fuck Microsoft for giving Bobby Kotick his "Golden Parachute" payout for himself and every other complicit abuser on their Board of Directors and management staff.
