I think Valve has said that, in the new L4D1 expansion that's coming, one player will have to sacrifice themselves during the finale. In theory it can be any character, but Bill's death will be the only one that's canon.

The Infection has mutated this victim’s fine motor skills. The Opener is able to open doors, instead of having to break them down. If he uses his skill on an open door, he is able to close the door. He can support his teammates by politely holding the door open for them.

The Wheeler

Before the Infection,  he was told he would be confined to his motorized wheelchair for life. But the doctors didn’t say anything about his undeath. The Wheeler can run over Survivors’ toes, causing the Survivor to hop around on one foot, cursing. He can also cause an instant incap by dropping his chair off a high building onto a Survivor. However, he relies on a friendly Charger, Tank or Smoker to push or pull him up any stairs.

@Jeff: Can you confirm that BCR2 will include ball-puckering?
