earth defense force on inferno. Though you can make it negligible by collecting enough armor pickups. That's still hundreds of hours worth of grinding required
Oh, oh!
I forgot! I've actually done that one! In co-op though. Good times.
That's probably the hardest thing I've ever finished.
I think that you should define "hard". A game like Dark Souls is difficult to complete, but isn't particularly difficult to execute. Some games artificially increase their difficulty by making you grind more. Some games require exploiting at higher difficulties.
So does "hard" mean difficult to complete, hard on the mind and body, hard to execute, a lot of time investment required... or all of the above?
I think it's all of the above.
As far as our marathon is concerned, we wanted to focus on games which present a challenge but are also actually good games. Not games that are so awful that they become hard to finish, or games that are designed purely with difficult in mind. Because we're live streaming it, we wanted games that are a real accomplishment but also that are fun and enjoyable to watch. Games like SMB, Ninja Gaiden and Dark Souls are in that 'sweet spot', I think.
Hmm, the souls games , the old x-com games, The land of the livid dead parts of Rayman: Origins were also very challenging. Just from the top of my head =)
I own Rayman Origins but never got to that stage, just watched a video on Youtube. Wow. That looks mental.
Rewind to a few months ago, and I would have answered this question for you in an instant: "Split/Second! It's made by Black Rock and therefore is the winner!" or something to that effect.
However, as we draw close to release, the line has been a little blurred. Pun not intended.
Blur came out fighting with a multiplayer beta than frankly, rocks. It's wicked fun to fly into someone on a corner, unleash a barge and then boost away. 20 player online is also quite an achievement and I think it's managed to create a frantic experience that Split/Second simply wont be able to match unless the explosions happen every couple of seconds. This remains to be seen, but I do believe Blur might have stolen Split/Seconds thunder by being amazing.
It may truly be the Mario Kart for grown ups that some of us have always wanted.. And that many more of us never knew we wanted but now we've played it can't think of living without it., Looking forward to seeing how it turns out!
