EDIT: I actually started this out as a joke thread for people to lay out their frustrations with such diabolical stuff as pants, bacon, Walt Disney and horrible pop-rap artists. While, overall, the answers are great, some of you take it a little too serious. I think, that some issues such as religion, sexism and in some cases racism, don't really belong here. It is not in my control or authority to tell you fine folk what to do or not, but I suggest that you keep the opinions that might offend others to yourself. If that is too hard, than I advise you take a look at the numerous issue-specific topics, that are plentiful.
"link is hereMichael Savage as you may know is a radio personality here in the good U S of A. He was recently banned from the UK (and here's the ridiculous part) because the english do not agree with his views. Mainly on border patrol. I personally think it's just shows how ignorant the british can be. His radio program isn't even broadcasted over there and yet of all the people, he's goes on the ban list. Personally I would say no big loss because if you're that fucking ignorant to ban me from your country just because we may have different views and opinions on certain things then I wouldn't want to be anywhere near you country. But that's just me. What do you guys and gal(s) think?"
Ok, to get back on topic, how is then, the US not ignorant? There are a whole lot of examples, but let's take a look at Cuba. American firms are forbidden to do business with them, visiting the country is forbidden and those who break these sanctions are facing ten years in prison and a quarter-million fine. Blacklisting an entire country, because of it's government's political views, essentially. Way not to be ignorant.
By the way, not hating on the US, just making a point. Almost every country has a blacklist, just saying that calling the UK ignorant for not wanting a racist homophobic douchebag with a superiority complex in their country is not very reasonable.
"
The sanctions against Cuba are probably past their logical expiration date, seeing how they were placed there as part of the Cold War. Cuba was not just a country that "disagreed" with American policies or way of life. They were an ally with the US's number one enemy. And Fidel Castro, who is still in power there, represents that historical trend.Again, not saying that there isn't cause to seriously rethink those sanctions, especially in the case of immigration, just stating that this wasn't a lax "I don't like the look of you, Cuba" decision. It was a tense political decision put in place at a time when a hot war felt more and more imminent. The sanctions are just a leftover of that period. Once Fidel has passed, it will likely be tabled for some discussion. "
Good, points. Can't really reply, because I need to revise for my macro exam, but I'll get back at you in a couple of hours.
I don't agree with Mr. Savage but it's still doesn't excuse how you can ban someone from your country just because you have different views and opinions.
Then let's give a situation, if you lived in the UK and you had the chance to remove everyone from America in that list, would you allow it. Understand that Savage is also next to Phelps, and a white supremacist. Would you be cool with three extra racist dickheads going in your country? Understand you would still have "Islamist Dickhead" Anjem Choudary in your nation spewing hate, so would you be cool with three extra ones spewing more hate widening the audience of racists/sexists/nationalists/homophobes in your nation? Right? "
I just don't think any country should turn anyone away. Be it religion, race, orientation, or even believes."
Sadam Hussein also had his beliefs. I'm pretty sure he got hanged."
Saddam was guilty of genocide. His beliefs didn't get him killed, his actions did."
Yeah, whatever. I'm saying that those were his beliefs. Give Michael Savage a gun and and army, believe me, shit will happen.
