Most of you are probably too young to remember K1 Arena Fighters on the OG PlayStation but this game was the first of its kind as before there there were only a tiny scattering of offerings in the fighting arena and none were serious representatives of the sport except a game called andre panza kickboxing from the early days of computer gaming
kickboxing is a FANTASTIC sport for a video game and if you go back to OG muay thai its was perfectly legal to slam your opponant
if a dev brought back the kickboxing genera and included a fight game style slam grapple system it would be a MASSIVE hit
the UFC titles are fine but feel mushy and slow especially in the tedious grappling attempts and glaring lack of quick simple strike counter slams (what a fail)
fighting games like tekken and sf2 actually represent the true pace of combat better and are imo far more reliable in hit detection and competitive depth
it would be so awesome if kickboxing made a comeback
@sombre: I was there in the very beginning of the arcade run and that game was a Phenom before we only had karate champ but now the new updated highly competitive PVP fighter was truly A Cut Above the Rest
I always hated the ridiculous knock down trope but beyond that the game was a masterpiece but still would have been much better without the knockdown trope
without a doubt the original characters that created the very best competition where the true martial arts characters
ryu/ken
guile
honda
sagat
zang
the tyson character was just too limited and everything else was fluf
Later in the series I thought it was cool that they brought in a more MMA variance and no one can deny the of the Bruce Lee character
