This is horrible and really makes me not want to support Konami, though I was planning on getting the new metal gear. It sucks that to support the developers we also need to support the people in charge of these inhumane working conditions. It's hard to imagine this is actually legal.

On a side note, it really reminds me of my time working at a call centre, though obviously not as bad as this it sounds like they used some similar tactics to increase productivity. Every call could be monitored (during the call or up to something like a year afterwards) and you'd have no idea. Every statistic was recorded, how long your calls were, how long it took to wrap up the calls, bathroom breaks etc, and everyones statistics were emailed out the next day, anything that was even slightly outside of what they wanted was highlighted in red for everyone to see. We also needed to be careful about what we would say on social media, anything considered to show negativity towards the company could get you in trouble.

Thanks for the quick replies. It's not super bad, I just have a bit of a phobia and I know I'm over-reacting a bit, but then the irrational part of my brain just wants to make sure. I'll see if I can get in contact with a professional, see what they say.

Hey everyone, sorry if this isn't the sort of thing to post on these forums but I'm freaking out a bit and this community is awesome and I just need some advice. Got a bit of a bug problem, have some fly killer spray thing, but just wondering, if anyone has any experience with this sort of thing, should I remove stuff like my TV and games consoles before spraying? Would covering them be enough? Or would they be ok as they are?

If this sort of post isn't appropriate here just let me know and I'll delete it.

Thanks in advance.

Excited to finally throw my hat into the ring for this year's banner contest!

I'm playing into the Amiibo craze a bit here, but please, if you or someone you love is struggling with Amiibo Fever or involved with an Amiibo cult, seek help.

This is pretty fantastic :D

Is anyone actually offended by this game? I am not saying people should or shouldn't be offended, that's up to the individual, I just mean I haven't actually seen anyone complain about anything other than the game being boring. I do remember some controversy about it when the game was announced, but it seems to me that the game came out and everyone just went 'Oh, ok then.'

I have scars on my leg from self harm, I would love to cover them up with a "Ryan Davis" tattoo to remind myself of who I want to be. He was an awesome and lovely man and I would love to be remembered the way he is. Is that shitty? I don't know, but feel free to message me on either side of the fence.

While I understand it's the lot of the video game critic to think about the medium more deeply than the average consumer, I can't imagine what it must be like to wring my hands over quandaries this trivial.

It's often very useful to understand the "artistic intent" behind certain decisions, but you as a player are under no obligation to experience a game the way its creators feel you should. If you might enjoy The Evil Within more without those black bars, get 'em the hell outta there! And if you want to console command yourself into invulnerability, you can do that too!

I was about to jump in here and say I disagreed with you, but now I'm not too sure. I will say that I don't think it's a trivial thing though. It seems like there are more and more games which seem to be aiming to get across an artistic vision so I think we need to have this sort of conversation. Maybe the questions need to be about what can and can't be used for artistic intent in games? If the player controls it, such as the camera, can the artist use it to say something? Should their vision be limited to the story?

Personally, I feel like artistic intent should be respected, but I don't know if that means players shouldn't have the option? I keep wanting to compare it to film but it's really not the same thing. Games are all about interactivity and player choice, I suppose the question is 'Does player choice only apply within the game world?' I watched a horror film tonight. I didn't watch it in the dark alone, I watched it with friends, joking around the whole way though. Was that the scenario the filmmakers had in mind when they made the film? Probably not. Is that the same as changing the aspect ratio of a game? I've no idea. I know I wouldn't expect anyone to watch 'The grand budapest hotel' and think 'I don't like that this is in 4:3, I'm gonna change that'. I know that modding etc. has always been a big part of gaming, so I'm sure that'll need to be taken into account.
