Awesome Quotes Vol 2

This edition of awesome quotes is a little longer than last time, its a newspaper article I found form 1984 that I think you'll find interesting

The Uneasy Revolution

Home Computers have little to offer the average household, claims professor.

People who feel they are missing out by not owning a home computer can rest easy. They are probably just as well off without one.

Dr Graham McMahon, of the Universisty of NSW Computer Science department, says home computers have little to offer the average househole.

"Most of the tings a home computer can do, such as keeping household accounts and giving reminders, can be done as easily by cutomary means", he says.

"As an aid to schoolwork it has only marginal value. I guess the most that can be said for it is that it can help farmiliarise children at an early age with an elemantary form of the technologythey will have to cope with increasingly in later life."

Both in the US and Australia, computers have not yet caught on with the public to anywhere the degree anticipated by computer companies, despite high powered promotion campaigns.

Forecast

Author John Naisbett forecast in his current international bestseller, Megatrends, that home computer shopping is doomed "because people want to be with people", despite the fact that technology will enable us to shop from home.

An even stronger critic of computer veneration is Joseph Weizenbaum, a proffesor of computer science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, who helped pioneer the development of the computer.

"As for the computer itself, I think it inhibits childrens creativity. In most cases, the computer programs the kids and not the other way around."

Temptation

"The temptation to send in computers wherever there is a problem is great. There is hunger in the Third World. So computerise. The schools are in trouble. So bring in computers."

"The introduction of the computer into any problem area, be it medicine, education, or whatever, usually creates the impression that serious deficiencies are being corrected. But often its principaleffect is to push problems further into obscurity to avoid confrontation with the need for fundamental critical thinking."

While agreeing that there was a "lot of gimmickry" attached to the promotion of home computers, Dr McMahon said computers could be programmed to be valuble teaching aids.

"One great advantage they possess is infinite patience, whereas human beings tend to get impatient", he said

I'm Shaking

A guy came to school today to talk about snakes. It was a great presentation. At one point he talked about the most venomous snake in the world - the fierce snake. One drop of its venom can kill 10 elephants. He even had one on display. After the talk near the end of the day he was packing up the snakes and the fierce snake - through the bag as he was putting it away - Bit Him. Knowing full well what this meant, quickly becoming pale and sweaty, he bandaged his arm got in his car and drove off for the hospital. So now here I sit at home. Typing this. Shaking.

Dabbling in the Unknown

Spurred on by Player1 who was in turn, spurred on by DJ, I decided to have my own go at photoshoping some pictures for my blog space. After a few days of trying the result is something I think looks quite good, though I could definitely improve.

My Collection

I love to be healthy
I love to be healthy
I just spent the best part of the afternoon sifting through my bookshelf and a couple of boxes that have been shoved under my bed. The purpose - to make a list. A list of every game I own. The result - Right Here. There may be a few games that I can't remember and couldn't find. I tried to order them from oldest to newest but screwed up right at the end with the last few games. Oh well. Also, Oat milk - Awesome.

A Dragon... Above 7 Balls.....

I know that jokes been done to death but I just had to say it. Anyway the title of this post along with the prevalent theme of my profile page should make the following statement obvious. I like dragon ball. And seeing as I like dragon ball, why not talk a little about the series.

I first watched Dragon Ball Z as just another one of many Saturday morning cartoon shows. It wasn't anywhere near my favorite (which was the original

Vegeta is just awesome

Digimon, but we'll leave that for another blog) and I often missed episodes, losing large chunks of the story before, at the shutting down of Fox Kids I stopped watching the show. My interest in these kinds of things quickly dwindled and I spent a number of years honing another hobby - games. Then - no more than 6 months ago numerous conversations with a close friend of mine turned to the subject of how awesome Dragon Ball Z was. These conversations lead to a spark of curiosity and then the acquisition of the first volume of the series, followed by another, and another, and a few more until I now own up to the perfect cell saga of Z and hope to get the rest and possibly GT after. As I watched and watched, my desire for more grew until I downloaded the entire original manga. Now I have no qualms with doing this as the entire series was never fully translated into English and the elisions that were are now out of print and almost impossible to find. My enjoyment of Dragon Ball Z has lead to me looking up many other anime series' including Digimon, Cowboy Bebop, Gundam Wing, Naruto and a couple of others.

TV's are awesome

Changing gears, some people wanted to know what I'm planning to spent the muchous moula on. The way I'm thinking at the moment is:
Firstly, a new TV. My 26" SD just isn't great for gaming anymore. I know I wont be able to afford a full 1080p of any size for under a grand, but I should be able to get a nice 32" 720p plasma for $600-700. After that a phone as I haven't had one in about 6 months. I hope to find something that appeals to me for sub-$100. beyond that, I just want to get as many games as I can afford. After I'm done typing this, I'll make a wishlist of games I want and put that up.

Something else I really want to comment about is the hullabaloo that seems to have stirred up over a little game called
Fat Princess is... You guessed it, awesome
Fat Princess is... You guessed it, awesome
'Fat Princess'. The core game as I understand it is a quirky take on capture the flag. There are two opposing teams each with their own castle. The princess of each castle is stolen by the other at the start of each round and its the goal of each team to get their princess back, however each team has the ability to treat their captive to a couple of nice cakes and the like, thereby causing her waistline to expand and enemy knights task of carrying her away that much more difficult. It appears that a number of rather silly people have accused the game of encouraging homophobia, hatred towards the obese and a number of equally preposterous statements. I wont say more on the matter because my opinion on the matter has been written far better that I could on my good fiend Subrosian's GS blog.

Just on a side note it was the schools athletics carnival today and I royally sucked, oh well.
Yeah, and pictures!!!!

Bye for now

1000!?!?

Sorry I haven't posted anything in the past few days, The internet has been really bad at my place as of late (like almost dial-up), so I've barely been able to check the site though it should be back to speedy by tomorrow. I haven't been playing many games lately, preferring to instead *try* to browse the site and update stuff. I've managed to make a couple of edits and get a few points (46 to be exact) and hope to break the 100 barrier very soon and from there the oly way to go is up! speaking of that, brings me to my big worry when I get 1000 points, what happens if I fuck up. Not so much if I put in incorrect data, thad' just get fixed up by someone else, probably pretty quickly, but say there's a game I want to submit an article for, that already had a great article in it. I with my Mr 1000 go and edit the article with what I wanted to write, completely removing the good article and replacing it with my decent one, thereby lowering the quality of the page and the site as a whole. of course worrying about it will probably reduce the chance of me doing that greatly.

While I'm on the topic of 1000, something pretty damb awesome happened recently. A while ago my mum said 'Pick your grades up and I'll give you something' so I picked up my grades and it turned out to bee 1000, 1k, 1g, one, tripple oh'.

In cold. hard. cash.

Oh. my. fuck.

AWESOME!!!!!!

Caught in the Aftershock

Welcome friends, to the new gaming capitol of the world. Here, in my humble corner you shall see, read and hear all my gaming exploits as well as my opinions on gaming news and events. I might edit a couple of pages, get my feet wet in the wiki-pool and possibly start up a podcast. Anyway, for this inaugural post I'll write a quick spiel on myself.

I live in Australia, the land down under with parched soil and horrendously overpriced games.
I'm 17 years old and in year 11 in school.
I love games, all games - whilst I do prefer more action oriented, fast paced games if the game is good I'll probably have fun with it.
I own an old (3 and a bit years) PC, a 360 and a ps2, If I had the opportunity I would buy a Wii, DS and PS3 in that order
outside of games my interest include Anime and sci-fi. Throw in the fact I like maths I suppose I'm kind of an uber-geek

I haven't had much opportunity to look around Giant Bomb yet so I'll be doing that before having a geez on the forums and start yappin my mouth off.

Anyway, see you all soon!!!!!
