Its probably good that the family rules are there but they seem kind boring. Advanced mode actually seems pretty cool. I might have to see if my local shop carries the board game.

Man, I just came down from a nice buzz of a couple beers and stuffed myself with mexican food... only to discover this came out and I missed it... time to go back for more beer!

Haven't seen this since I was younger so this should be...fun?

@cornbredx:as soon as I spotted "code red" scrolling through the comments, MOP gear came to mind. Haven't served but know many who have and have heard the stories. Thanks!

@efesell: Is there a rule or precedent for incuring some kind of advantage/disadvantage based on the difficulty? My concern is how does the DM make something stupid like a popcorn ramp less likely while still letting players try stuff? Is it just the honor system hoping players won't try? Or is it more of the DM just saying no? That stuff works a lot better in a funny podcast than at the table a lot of the time.

I guess the solution would be to just slide the partial success up, have a higher chance of total failure and lower chance of total success but is that a part of the ruleset or is that some homebrew stuff? For my taste I don't like the idea of it being equal to try and shoot the rope of a hung man from 50 feet vs shooting the man at 10. How would that be handled, do you know?

@lucidique: I have yes, and PUBG has issues but its no worse than any other game of its kind. Fortnite on the other hand was not an enjoyable experience at any level beyond a pretty well realized building mechanic, which isn't original just refined, like Pubg's main selling points.

PUBG wasn't especially unstable for me in the later period of it's development, fortnite ran and controlled mediocre-poorly for me. It was not fun in the slightest for me. PUBG was fun even the time I tried to run it on an i5 mobile chip. If given the choice between free with crappy gameplay in my view vs not free but feels like a quality game moment to moment I'mma take that.

Both games have issues. Fortnite is still not at 1.0 and it shows. I know the shooting is a major sticking point for the playerbase so i'm not just an outlier who doesnt like how it feels. I don't know how much their updated shooting model will help but as it is I don't like interacting with the game at that level and that's kind of key for me.

This is also just my experience. For many players fortnite will appeal more, and i recognize that. I just think you sound a bit biased because of your preference. Most of your issues with PUBG are present in fortnite and others exist that PUBG does not have and vis versa.

Fortnite could easily improve to the point where I would like the game, but my early impressions were that it needed a lot more work, especially if I am going to have fun shooting things.

Full disclosure my experiences with the game came after talking to a long time friend who works at the studio responsible for sprint vector, but that game is rad and its rad because of all the "off the track" paths you can take. You can spend most of a race off of what looks like the track once you wrap your mind around it. I only played a couple times at PAX Prime after some brief Q&A with him but it feels really badass once you get a hang over everything. I was pretty damn proud when I not only beat my other, non studio employed buddy handily at the head to head but also posted a very respectable time for a first attempt.

@lucidique: It's more than base mechanics. Details like the warm up where everyone runs around during the "warmup," the way parachuting works, the map, etc. Regardless of who invented what, some of this seems more like a mod than a fully fleshed out, seperate concept. Someone said "how about pubg with shitty shooting but also you can build?"

Denying that this is just taking the particular formula of pubg to adapt it to fortnite is ignoring what Epic themselves said about this thing.

Last time I played Fortnite it was anything but polished and felt like the sort of mess that comes out of an ambitious first time dev. The shooting feels like ass, even on a controller. The artstyle is well implemented but kind of the same generic stylized look every other indie game seems to adopt. The interface was a mess. Seems weird that Dan thinks just having a stylized look makes it seem polished, but maybe I misunderstood him.

This game just kinda disappointed me in general. Feels bad, the structure isnt what I hoped for, and the progression is iffy imo. Adding battle royale doesnt seem like it'll change my mind.

How are DC type decisions handled in this ruleset? I like what has come out of this system with GB but this seems to be more RNG than more traditional syst ed ms. Is this down to how the DM does things or is this a product of the DM (Austin)?
