@zaldar: wasn't he fired from WWE for a racist rant? The hate he gets can probably continue. Also 'yes sexual harassment is bad but...' isn't a good way to start a character defense.
man this comment section has gotten really, really weird.
The Giant Bomb comments section: taking Dan Ryckert way too seriously since 2014.
For real ^ smdh
Seriously. Some of the mental gymnastics going on of people trying to psychoanalyse Dan's dislike of this game are just strange. Maybe the game just sucks.
Watching this video and others, it certainly seems like the game just sucks. And the 'attitude' of the game really is that violently off-putting and lame to me as well, so I don't think Dan is overreacting or anything.
People acting like Vinny took the controller and one-shot it. It still took them another five minutes and giving the controller back to Dan. Maybe it's just not a great boss fight.
Also being able to stand still as a ball on a slope is wildly counter-intuitive, especially when the round shaped logs are rolling downhill seemingly only by the force of gravity. That's definitely a mixed message.
Its cool that Nintendo switched (eh, eh) things up so much for one of their core franchises; but this sounds like something I have zero interest in playing. Zelda games have always been pretty open-ended, but I need at least a little structure to my games. If everything is optional, than nothing is necessary, and if nothing is necessary, than why am I bothering to do it?
Because not everything needs to be necessary to be fun?
Great write up, the 'magic' you describe in the last couple of paragraphs sounds like the greatest compliment a game can get. It sounds like the wait for this game was worth it.
