I played this game last year in Japanese, it was definitely my GOTY. I'm super excited to watch the Beast crew play it. But they need to do it more often than once a week, or at least in bigger chunks. It can be a reeeeeally long game if they get caught up in sub-stories and mini-games. I probably spent somewhere around 80 hours on my single playthrough, without even 100%-ing it.
Also, hopefully they figure out how to do heat moves more often. Trying to see all the different heat moves is a big part of the fun!
Oh, if anyone wants to know how far the NSFW stuff goes... (minor spoilers regarding the nature of some side content) There are short live-action video clips of real Japanese porn stars, but they are just wearing bikinis and posing provocatively. Some cleavage/butt close-ups, but that's about it. Also, each one of those porn stars is an in-game NPC of varying importance.
I don't read reviews very often, but I was curious about this one because of how Alex has talked about NMS on the podcast. I'm glad I read it. Amazing review! The anecdotes peppered throughout really add some nice flavour to it.
I haven't purchased or played the game, but I've been following people's reactions to it with great interest. This review mirrors the impression I have of the game - fundamentally flawed, but somehow compelling. That sense of exploration, wonderment, and feeling alone in the universe is something I think I would find interesting. Besides, I have zero interest in "multiplayer" or shooters, so I'm happy those aren't the focus of the game. However, I think the $80 price tag (Canada) is way too steep. I look forward to trying it out when the price drops. (hopefully by then, there will be bug fixes and added features in place)
I'm so glad to hear this game is "fun". Well, I play every major AC no matter what, anyway. I even enjoyed 3 & Unity to some extent. Mostly because I'm shamelessly addicted to the climb/sync/leap-into-convenient-stack-of-hay process, and I love murdering people with the hidden blade. I'm definitely going to buy this as soon as the price is $60 or less in Canada. I REFUSE TO PAY $80.
edit: I totally agree that they should stop releasing an AC annually.
Christ, the first 45 minutes brought back all my traumatic memories of watching the horribly explicit birthing video from sex ed. That thing made me swear off having children forever (I am female). Except, somehow Brad Muir's details made my trauma even worse.
