No, he is an atheist. Very much so. Listen to his TED speech. It's great." @astrotriforce said:
Richard Dawkins isn't an atheist, he is strongly swayed towards atheism, but still classes himself as a an agnostic, much like myself. "" @oatz said:
Right, so by your logic Richard Dawkins is not an Atheist or a proponent of Evolution, given his admission of belief in Intelligent Beings that seeded life. "" lolno
EDIT: For those unaware, it's a fancy schmancy way to say that some being (hint: God) created/is designing nature. It means you don't believe in evolution. Just creationists trying to sound scientific. "
People like to get into the semantics behind it and say you can't really be an atheist because you can't ever know for sure so you are an agnostic by default.
Not true. An atheist is someone who does not believe in the existence of gods.
An agnostic is someone who has conflicted beliefs or is unsure of their belief in god(s).
It has nothing to do with what you "know" and has everything to do with what you believe.
These are the only definitions that make sense and stop people from having to sit down and explain EXACTLY what they mean and why.
I do not believe in gods, therefore I am atheist.
That having been said, I would actually be fine if people wanted to teach Intelligent Design in a Theology class. Just don't teach it in a science class, because, ya' know, it's not science.
