This is true.  By comparison to the last generation of JRPGs, the current generation has been uncreative and static.  There are exceptions, of course, but most have failed to inspire any one who is interested in the genre in the same way that they were with previous generations.  Maybe with the release of FFXIII and White Knight Chronicles some of that will change, or maybe Japanese developers just need more time to figure out what direction they want to take the game-style in.  I wouldn't give up on JRPGs entirely if I was you, however - looking at the long list of games you have played - I think you need to take a break for a while.  You sound to me to be burned out and that might be one of the reasons you're so depressed about your feelings toward the genre.

@iAmJohn:   I beg to differ.  Even gamers who are interested in the title enjoy high profile games and almost all of us have limited resources.  Maybe someone can only buy 1 or 2 games a month, or maybe they can only spend a specific amount.  Uncahrted 2 is set to release that month.  It's my personal #1 anticipated game for 2009, so I'll be buying that before anything else.   Other games scheduled to reach store shelves for that month are Brutal Legend, Alpha Protocol, Dragon Age: Origins and Borderlands.  All these games seem to be the type of game that might also appeal to someone who would buy Demon's Soul.  This means that, like word-of-mouth favorite Valkyria Chronicles, the game will be pushed to the "later" column of many gamer's "buy" lists.   For avid gamers this will probably be a good thing since by then Atlus might drop the price (again, like VC), but that hardly inspires the publisher to continue to take chances on obscure niche titles.  I know that "obscure" is Atlus' focus, but there are limits in every business.  Risk versus reward must be calculated into a business plan when deciding which games to localize.  And, a small niche title that occupies shelf space at Wal-Mart or Target will have a shorter lifespan if it doesn't move some units.  Against the tide of high profile games released in October, I don't see it being widely available for more than a few weeks in larger retail outlets.  That hurts sales, even for a niche title, in the end.

I'm definitely in the minority here, but a few months ago I saw High School Musical for the first time, too and I enjoyed it.   I found it to be a spirited lively old-fashioned boy-meets-girl story with some catchy tunes dropped in to keep it moving along.   I also saw HSM2 but got bored with it all half way through and found myself clicking it off to watch other things in between the musical numbers.  I haven't seen HSM3 yet, but I liked the single.  I have no desire to see either HSM1 or HMS2 again, but I can't say that even the one I didn't like was akin to a human rights violation.

Also, I tried to watch Camp Rock (the other Disney TV musical) and Spectacular (Nickelodeon's attempt at a musical) and turned them off about 10 minutes into the story.  Very bad, although I quite enjoy Demi Lovato in other projects.

Well I suffer from Acrophobia (heights) but I rarely find myself in a situation where that kicks in.  A more problematic phobia I encounter often is "Enochlophobia" which is a fear of crowds.  Now, it's not super bad for me but my anxiety increases as I get hemmed in by other people.  When it gets too uncomfortable I remove myself from the situation so that I am off alone somewhere.  I've never had a panic attack, but I am cautious enough to keep plenty of elbow room around me.

Bugs crawling into my ear while I'm sleeping and laying eggs, then those eggs hatch inside my ear and the larvae start to feed on my inner ear working their way toward my brain.

My PC is only almost all the time except for quick reboots.  Recently, I gone from playing P4 for 6-8 hours to watching videos streamed from my computer on my PS3 and that must have been 12 or 13 hours total...and then I fell asleep while it was on so the number was probably closer to 18 hours.

Even though I love the system and many of the games available for it, if my 360 was running for 18 hours I'm afraid it would melt or explode (maybe both).  Too bad, cause I used to leave my original Xbox on for days at a time with no problem.

I prefer boxed copies because if I had to download a 9 to 40+ gigabyte game to play it on my console, I'd die of old age before it was complete.  Trust me, I recently downloaded something (not a game...or porn) that was 60+ gigs and it took 3 weeks. Can you imagine buying a game and then waiting weeks of download time before you can play it?  I think eventually there will be a large market for this type of distribution but not until the infrastructure is bigger, faster, and widely available.

@The_A_Drain:  Did you know they made a made-for-television XIII miniseries?  So I guess it could be considered a franchise, and it was a comic book before it was a game anyway.
